Summary: Legitimate fixes to the apartment that do not involve duct tape plus a dinner!!

[After the whole duct tape fiasco, or maybe because of it, they'd finally gotten someone to agree to repairing it. And since they have extra guests, it makes senses to do something like a family dinner, right? Only probably is that they don't really have the space for that even, but it won't stop them from trying! If they could cram that many people in the apartment last time, this should be considerably easier. So after some finagling, a dinner had been set up! This is that dinner.

[Under differing circumstances, Asbel would be glad to know that Kaneis is impressed by his overly passionate speech on the wonderful world of curry. He's still leaning forward, intent on setting the masses straight.]

No way! Stew and curry are two completely different things.

[He can't pontificate on stew. Stew is just...stew. No one cares about it. Don't change the subject!]

[And he's leaning back because whoa dude, you're kinda intimidating right now!]

[How is she supposed enjoy her dinner when preaching is going on? Her expression is getting increasingly more annoyed with the conversation as she attempts to eat. She eventually slams her spoon down on her plate.]

That's enough! Asbel, if you don't stop lecturing people about something as stupid as this, I'm going to stop making you curry all together!

[It's a total bluff but maybe he'll buy it considering how irritated she sounds.]

[The sound of another clattering spoon is enough to distract Asbel from starting in on yet another monologue about the pros (there are no cons!) of mild curry. He cringes visibly, his attention drifting towards a very angry-looking childhood friend.]

[And at her declaration, his eyes widen in utter shock and horror.]

What?! C-Come on, Cheria, you can't--! I mean...

[But Cheria's curry is the best curry. He can't survive in Exsilium otherwise.]

[He slowly, slowly leans back into his own chair, looking dejected.]

[Okay, that worked pretty well. She picks her spoon back up, shooting him a glare.]

I can, and I will, so don't push your luck, buster! I didn't have to make curry for you tonight, you know?

[She could have made grilled chicken, but no, she tried to accommodate him and this is how he repays her? So rude! She just wanted a nice dinner.]

[Asbel can feel that burn. Ouch. Sometimes it seems like all she ever does is get mad at him. He heaves a sigh, a note of misery in his voice.]

I won't... Sorry.

[He was only trying to explain the whole point and superiority of mild curry. How'd it end up like this?]

[It seems like that because almost all she ever does is get mad at him. It never lasts, and it's not how she really feels but... He just does a lot of things that warrant yelling at, okay! Don't question her!!

His tone makes her feel bad, and her expression crumbles into something sympathetic and she immediately looks down to hide it.]

E-everyone has different tastes, you know? You can't just force yours onto everyone else like that. It's childish.

[That's harsh, but also undeniably true. And he thinks someone just called him childish. ...But, that might be kind of true, too. He should probably be setting a better example here, particularly for Sophie's sake.]

Yeah, I know that. I mean, anyone who can stand the smell of fermented soybeans...

[Asbel's voice trails off as he catches himself before traveling further down that particular route.]

A-anyway, I guess we could always, I don't know, whip up two different curry sauces next time? That way we can accomodate everyone's tastes.

...The next time we have curry, I mean.

[Asbel mutters, what he thinks is inaudibly, under his breath ("no they're still different..."). It is so hard not to say something more to that, but he's not exactly ready to face Cheria's wrath a second time. And maybe the other guy has a point. It's okay for everyone's tastes to be different, isn't it?]

[As long as he doesn't have to eat his curry spicy.]

[He sighs, rubbing the side of his head.] ...Sorry, Kaneis. Maybe mild curry is right for some people and spicy curry is right for others.

[Yeeeah Kaneis can hear that perfectly, but he won't press it! Not when Cheria is angry at them because yeah. Let's not push luck here]

Ahahah...it's okay. Mild curry's fine too...! Just didn't know it was a thing!

You mean there's no such thing as a mild curry on Tethe'alla?

[AT ALL?]

[Don't worry, he's back to his normal Asbel. He isn't being possessed by the spirit of the curry purist any longer. Cheria's seen to that.]

[a shrug!] Not that I know of, I've only had it spicy.

[giving a wave with his spoon as he gestures]

One time we even had to cook it for this stupid gnomelette guy who was blocking a pass, because he wanted to know what 'spicy' was.

Huh. [How disappointing. Maybe Kaneis can at least take the memory of mild curry back with him and spread it around the world when he returns home.]

[Also, wow. This story's a lot more whimsical than the last one Asbel heard from him. Not that he's complaining or anything.]

And that's why he was blocking it? Because he was hungry?

[Too bad he's dead huh. And yes! This story does not have some horrific twist!]

Nah, I don't think gnomelettes need to eat, I mean he seriously waited days for us to get the recipe and ingredients. He was just being a pushy jerk like the rest of his brothers.

Wow, and he waited around for that long anyhow? [He manages to look a little amused.]

Huh. I had no idea they were like that. I always figured that gnomes - or gnomelettes, I guess - would be kind and hard-working...

[Of course, that was from a play. And not even a very good one.]

[he snorts] Yeah right. I couldn't even tell you what they must do all day when there aren't travelers to mess around with.

[Pfff!] They sound like regular troublemakers...

But, hey, at least you finally got past him, right?

[So in the end, curry saved the day! ...Spicy curry, rather. Oh well, at least it's still part of the same family.]

Oh we did! I mean, we had to give some liquor to his brother not long after- but we got through the temple in the end!

Wait. Seriously?

I'm not even sure what else to say to that...

I don't know. It seems kind of low to bother tourists who just want to visit a temple. Though I suppose it's also true that most people wouldn't just sell them the stuff.
