Date: December 1st
Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room; they show multiple variations of satellite images, focused on... somewhere snowy. It's difficult to say more than that, but those that record heat readings seem to suggest there are people there, where ever "there" is. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now. But, hey, at least all the lights are on, right? No more creepy red emergency lighting upon arrival — not that you'd know anything about that.

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, and to the remains of Exsilium.

[[ ooc; As a note for players of current characters: please keep your root comments confined to the various groups and organizations that set up root comments to greet new characters! Good.

There are new arrivals every month. And new lodgings. All I need to do is follow you.

[Things that have not changed at all: Uriel's stalking tendencies.]

He began to chirp again, but then he stopped. There was a better way to respond and he only hoped that the tablet was working this time. He took it out and, with his large hands, he began to type through it delicately.

What he presented to Medivh was no more than a blank text box, but he pointed at the name field. There was only one name, Francœur. This meeting, though surprising at first, seemed to be going quite well. He smiled, slowly at first, but his lips pulled back to reveal rows of his sharp, crooked teeth.

[there's nothing to know, it's just guy love between two guys]

Huh?!

[he raises his hands, turning red because THIS IS KINDA EMBARRASSING] I mean, you said you'd like to spar with partner, right? S-So, uh... [now it's his turn to look away because pffft, an amateur like him against someone who has formal training? He could barely fight Chie, whose 'training' was basically watching kung-fu movies, Kougyoku would probably massacre him]

We could practice?

Though there's probably other people who would be a better match. [he points at himself] Kinda a total amateur.

In what way?

"I don't know if it matters," he spits, with a sudden bitterness.

It won't be the same. That Ruka is here, that some other imPort exists, what does that change? What difference does that make? That won't give him back his future. That won't return him to the City. That won't even allow him the possibility of returning to the alpha timeline. What's the point, of trying to, what, start over from scratch? Make connections again, treat different versions of old friends as though they were interchangeable, indistinguishable.

What does it matter?

He's so tired.

"So, what's your point?" he moves on to say, with a flimsy attempt at sounding haughty and unconcerned. "Being a splintered, alternate version of yourself comes with a pretty packed schedule of existential malaise and the contemplation of the irrelevance of your existence, you know, I don't have time to stand here all day."

[ He nods, to the first question, happy to answer these questions. He's used to it -- it comes with being the person who makes newbies feel at home. ]

Nope! It's a country. A country made out of four large islands and thousands of smaller ones.

[ How much can he explain without overwhelming Eren? Hmm. ]

And inside Japan, there are many, many cities! I lived in one called Shizume.

The boy must be somewhat good, to have avoided getting his hand lopped off. Standard punishment for thieves, really, where Altaïr comes from... Despite Karkat's disdain for the blue planet below, Altaïr believes having more land and air to breathe will be an advantage.

"Futile?" He had doubted the effectiveness of their efforts, but had not completely written them off like this horned being. His curiosity gets the better of him; he thought time travel was only a thing here and nowhere else... "You have experience traveling through time?"

The Initiative makes time travel sound like it's as easy as hopping on your horse and riding to the next city, but placing himself in their care never appealed to Altaïr. They could teleport him anywhere. A fine way to kill him off without evidence, and he isn't exactly on the best of terms with them at the moment. He would rather wait on doing missions until he is sure they don't want to get rid of him.

[ She would massacre him a thousand times over until his body disintegrated on a molecular level. But it seems like she doesn't care. She's happy that someone wants to spar with her! ]

Very well, I accept. If you do not face tougher opponents, how else will you learn? [ Wow, she sounded so cool. ] I have never taught anyone else how to fight, though!

[ So she takes it as a lesson instead of practice!? She takes her golden hairpin and holds in such a way to show that she is ready. Yes, now. ]

"Well!"

Oz doesn't seem put off in the slightest, and he isn't; one might even say that being irritatingly cheerful in the face of surliness is a skill of his.

"That's true. Honestly, I thought space would be more exciting-looking. Though there are some people who can't get enough of watching the stars."

It wasn't my choice to return, any more than it was to come here the first time.

"Transports," he affirms with a nod, and his smile warms with a note of faint pride at her having picked up the term already.

It's not the first upsurge of warmth at her response, either; the thanks, however stilted, merits one too with its sincerity. He's seen — experienced — the reactions people have to a situation like this one, and they understandably run the gamut but tend towards the dismayed and unhappy (to say the least). And who can blame anyone? Short of coming directly out of an unbearably terrible situation, being forcibly taken from one's entire world and brought to a strange one's horrible war is disorienting and incredibly upsetting. Perhaps the added facet of also being on the moon is just another strange thing in the light of all that; the loss of a city forcing their hands can't have the same sort of sting when someone hasn't even seen the city before, much less known its inhabitants. He watches her reactions, how relatively calm she seems from the outside, though he of all people realizes how misleading that can be.

"As for that," he goes on with a laugh, that being if he's here to calm people, "that depends! Is it working?"

He winks, exaggerating the joke all the more.

"I thought you can't go wrong with hot chocolate! Unless someone doesn't like chocolate, or has an allergy," which would be unfortunate, "but in that case, there's tea and coffee too. And cookies!"

"It's not like they even look much different from the surface of your planet," Karkat points out. Nothing can really grate his nerves quite like those insufferably cheerful types. "They're just a bunch of glowing plasma that occasionally scorch your eyes in their sockets, anyway."

" — oh!"

Oz could comment on a lot of things — the truth of Karkat's statement, asking about plasma — but that'll have to wait because he's discovered something of priority.
