(no subject)

Date: December 1st
Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room; they show multiple variations of satellite images, focused on... somewhere snowy. It's difficult to say more than that, but those that record heat readings seem to suggest there are people there, where ever "there" is. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now. But, hey, at least all the lights are on, right? No more creepy red emergency lighting upon arrival — not that you'd know anything about that.

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, and to the remains of Exsilium.

Medivh, for all his finer graces(when available), wasn't sure exactly how to address the creature. He didn't have much to say in terms of normal conversation. He only had a plethora of questions. His physiology, his history, his species' background. Was he a demon or simply a creature of another world? It was a mixture of apprehension and wanton happiness that kept Medivh from bursting out at the seams. This was good for Francœur, to say the very least.

"So," He began slowly, seating himself on another bed, one that clearly wasn't taken. Medivh wouldn't be shy about staking his own claims, at least. Leaning Atiesh over his legs, the mage regarded Francœur with none of his intensity showing through anymore. It was the look of a man, who for the moment, simply wanted to ask a great number of questions.

"I am Medivh. Who are you?"

He began to chirp again, but then he stopped. There was a better way to respond and he only hoped that the tablet was working this time. He took it out and, with his large hands, he began to type through it delicately.

What he presented to Medivh was no more than a blank text box, but he pointed at the name field. There was only one name, Francœur. This meeting, though surprising at first, seemed to be going quite well. He smiled, slowly at first, but his lips pulled back to reveal rows of his sharp, crooked teeth.

In response, Medivh watched, his eyes following Francœur's digits more than the text appearing on screen in the first place. It was clear that Medivh was interested, but the reason why would slowly become more and more obscure. With patience, he touched on his chin and thought aloud.

"Well. That's certainly going to be inconvenient for you, here."

Inconvenient? What was? The confusion was apparent on his face as he tilted his head and chittered. He looked at the tablet to see if that was what Medivh meant. True, it was different from anything he had seen before; but once he knew it, it was really quite easy.

He wanted him to clarify. He placed the tablet on his lap as he waited for Medivh to continue.

"Speech," He responded simply. Medivh could take cues fairly well and at the very least, Francœur did wear his expressions clearly on his face. He raised one hand and began to trace letters in the air. His magic burned in the air, wisps of it hanging, glowing in the form of letters.

"Human beings are rather obsessed with it. They won't understand that some species of creatures use other gestures to communicate and they'll grow impatient," Medivh wrote 'Words' in the air and let it hang there. "I imagine I may be able to help you cope with the impatience of these people."

He gasped, making a hissing sound in his surprise. Even though he was seeing it, he could scarcely believe what was happening. He reached for the glowing letters, slowly extending his finger out to touch the corner of the W.

Oh, but Medivh was speaking still. His attention could only be drawn to so few things at once. He held his tablet up and tapped the screen. Would it not be enough to write on that?

[personal profile] medivhal 2013-12-13 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Much the same as smoke, when Francœur set his finger on the edge of the W, it passed through and spread. The only difference had been that smoke lacked consistency. Medivh's magic was bound to his will. Smiling plainly, Medivh raised his hand to wipe the letters out of the air.

"It's certainly a lovely machine, but it can do damage to your eyes to read it too much. It may be easier to work with something that doesn't reflect so much light."
smallest: Quote by Raoul ("He's got your eyes and my hairy legs.")

Could it really? He supposed it did look bright; the light it emitted was just enough to wash away the natural glow of his eyes. This was noticeable the moment he faced the screen and then shut it off soon after.

But how could Medivh help? He did not think it would be possible to write the same way he did. He chirped in a questioning tone though he could not offer much more than that to aid communication.

"You wouldn't notice the effects until you developed headaches," He shrugged, tracing his fingers through the air. He paused, conjuring a precious gem out of thin air, setting it down on the table before him. Lifting his staff, Medivh touched the gem with the tip of it and instead of anyone dying or watching as their souls were being ripped out of their body, the gem itself just hummed and began to smell nice.

It was a gesture to make the room feel more comfortable. It wasn't so much a singular scent as a magical gesture to make the one smelling it feel comfort. To everyone, that smell would be different.

"The solution may be very simple. There's no need to fret."

He made a short, surprised chirp at the appearance of the gem. It happened so quickly that Francœur did not know exactly what he had just seen. He breathed in the smell. Flowers, like the bouquet Lucille gave him. It was a warm memory.

Typically, he would be content to just know that the gem smelled nice and leave it alone. However, the humming it made drew his attention away. While he heard Medivh, Francœur did not look like he was listening. He turned to the table and he approached the gem. He hummed along with the sound. Before he did anything presumptuous, he looked back to Medivh to see what his reaction would be.

[personal profile] medivhal 2013-12-20 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
The smell of books, lacking dust. They were freshly written in, wearing the smell of hard work and recently dried ink. It was such a pleasant smell, Medivh had been hardly surprised that his mood was at its highest possible peak. The moment he was looked upon, Medivh tilted his head and listened to the brief little hum that came from Francœur.

"Are you a fan of music?" He asked quickly enough, looked to the gem. Medivh wondered to himself if Francœur could discern the subtle shift in the tone and hum of the crystal. It would be impossible for such a thing to resonate a tone constantly without it changing frequency near constantly. There were highs and lows to how it released its magic, though even Medivh could scarcely tell how it shifted.
smallest: Quote by Lucille ("It means honest heart.")

[personal profile] smallest 2013-12-20 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
He smiled widely as he nodded. Somewhere in the room, there was his guitar as well. However, the commotion from the wind had misplaced it. Francœur did not try to look for it; too many things had occupied him and now this gem was a new curiosity that he felt compelled to examine.

Medivh did not seem to mind, so he began to study it closer. He hummed to match the highs and lows, though it seemed that it lacked a pattern so he could not stay in tune with it. At first, his long fingers tapped the gem as if it were made of brittle glass. He tapped it and turned it, searching for a way to control its tone.

[personal profile] medivhal 2013-12-20 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't quite understand. Medivh had often let things in the world run their course without interfering too much--at least on a small scale. The chirp of a cricket would go without him so much as noticing. Dust collecting on his books--even less so. What this creature heard was a hundred times more than what Medivh could--or, willingly would. His machinations were much larger. His attention span could only be contained by the biggest of things.

So, he had no idea how to understand what Francœur was looking to do. So--

"...What is it you're trying to do?"
smallest: All the way from... somewhere else." Quote by Lucille ("That creature never hurt anybody.")

He chirped, waving his hand at the crystal. If the tablet could hurt the eyes as Medivh said, he preferred not to use it too much, especially when they could communicate in person. Instead, he tapped and turned the crystal, changing the pitch of his hum as he did. He hoped that Medivh could understand his intentions.
