Date: December 1st
Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room; they show multiple variations of satellite images, focused on... somewhere snowy. It's difficult to say more than that, but those that record heat readings seem to suggest there are people there, where ever "there" is. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now. But, hey, at least all the lights are on, right? No more creepy red emergency lighting upon arrival — not that you'd know anything about that.

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, and to the remains of Exsilium.

[Alucard figured the remaining Initiative members wouldn't have time to get into the nitty gritty with the new people. He shook his head. You're in for a treat, newbie.]

Well, let's see. I'll give you the short version. The United Earth nuked us on the ground, so we escaped to here. But it was only us Transports and a few Initiative members. A few weeks after being up here, there was a sudden outbreak of zombies that made a mess. Not long after that, a group of people caused what is being called a mutiny, but it can hardly be called such a thing if you ask me. Nevertheless, they took over all the systems for awhile, cutting out power and gravity and such until their demands were met. That didn't happen, as they were apprehended and are now locked up in some rooms like they were jail cells.

In the meanwhile, most of us are just trying to collect supplies, or do research in order to figure out how to fix the timeline, so we can finally get off this dusty rock.

[He stops with a short huff, folding his arms.] It's a mess. A complete, ridiculous mess.

[Man, that's a pretty long short version. And a whole lot of that was met with a blank stare and a canted head, if not quite for the reasons Al's expecting. Some of it was just plain word salad to him. (nuke? zombie? how do you cut off gravity even.) There is a part of it that makes sense, though, so he jumps to that.]

Mutiny? [That's serious. A pause, then-] What sort of demands were they making?

I feel that "mutiny" is a strong word, considering we have no established system to mutiny against. They wanted more say in what goes on around here, concerning meetings, missions, and what happens to us. What they neglected to notice was that most of the Initiative stayed behind when we evacuated to this base, and are mostly dead. I think there's only about a dozen of them here.

[He's silent for a moment, looking out of the window again.] While I understand where they're coming from, they went about it in a completely stupid manner. And now they're locked up since no one knows what to do with them. Personally, while I think some sort of punishment is deserved, if only for the inconvenience they caused, we have no system here. People are talking about establishing rules, but it's going to take awhile. [As mad as he was at the mutineers, he didn't like the idea of them waiting imprisoned for so long, either.]

They'd get the firing squad back home.

[Bluntly. Not that he's saying that's what should happen here, but. You know. Desertion is a far bigger concern in the army back home than mutiny, but no doubt it would be dealt with the same way. Mostly he's sort of surprised it hasn't been the same here.]

The Initiative brought us here to be soldiers, it's no surprise they don't want anyone talking back to the chain of command. That's not how it works.

A lot of people would agree with you. However, you have to remember, this is hardly an army and not everyone here are soldiers. At the core of it, we're kidnapped and forced into fighting. While we were still on the surface, there was training, but nothing very formal or regimented. It wasn't even mandatory. Plus, while people are being brought in droves every month, they seem to disappear just as fast. There's no way to keep this outfit stable, and I don't know how the Initiative even thought they could.

[Al ran a hand through his hair, letting out a light sigh. He was tired, and it showed.] Things are certainly stacked against us, but a lot of people have been working very hard on getting us back on Earth. [He was one of them, researching things he barely understood when first handed to him.] Whatever the scouting team finds on Earth now, whatever's changed, needs to be for the better. For God's sake, we need this break.

I'm not saying they've got the right idea pulling people into all this. You can't force people into a war they don't believe in and expect them to be happy about it. If they want people to fight for them, they have to make them understand why they should bother to give up their lives.

[Because as far as he's concerned, enlisting is about offering up your heart to humanity and dying when you're told if it comes to it. He's not suicidal, but he's not one to hesitate to give everything to a cause. He just doesn't believe in doing it for someone else's.]

But if we're all stuck here together, fighting with each other is just stupid.

They say the reason the Initiative brought us here was because the UE had gotten info or put agents on our worlds or something. So while they haven't gotten time travel down, hopping dimensions is another thing. [Considering what the UE did to Elmer's world, that's a serious threat.]

I agree. But at the same time, I think a lack of organization and communication led to all this. Maybe after this incident, more of this will get done.

[He pauses. He doesn't even know who this is he's been ranting at.] ... My apologies. My name's Alucard Anselm. Just "Al" works.

Eren. Eren Yeager.

[Absent, automatic, and short. All premise of politeness quickly moved away from in favor of pursuing the dimension hopping news. That's something he missed really understanding in the initial briefing, and it's nothing if not alarming.]

Hang on, are you saying those UE bastards are attacking our homes, too?

[Then hell, he should be there, not here.]
notadamnvampire: (let me think)

[personal profile] notadamnvampire 2013-12-09 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know about the details, but I don't think so. They've got moles on our home worlds, I think. However, they have attacked someone's home world in the past. Several months back, before I even arrived, the Initiative managed to send someone home. A few others went with him at first, and one was a cyborg who the UE managed to hack. The UE followed his signal, and swooped in, going all out on that world. They took what they wanted and utterly destroyed it.

[Al's done his homework. He's not a fighter, so he's been researching. It was important for everyone to know how bad the United Earth can be. To know what they're really fighting. His face creases with worry, though.]

I don't believe they're doing the same to our worlds. But I'm not sure how we'd tell.
