Date: December 1st
Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room; they show multiple variations of satellite images, focused on... somewhere snowy. It's difficult to say more than that, but those that record heat readings seem to suggest there are people there, where ever "there" is. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now. But, hey, at least all the lights are on, right? No more creepy red emergency lighting upon arrival — not that you'd know anything about that.

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, and to the remains of Exsilium.

[[ ooc; As a note for players of current characters: please keep your root comments confined to the various groups and organizations that set up root comments to greet new characters! We highly encourage tagging around here, but since it's a log meant for new characters specifically, we ask that they be the ones to set up root threads to the entry. Thank you, and happy playing! ]]

[Even though she's not really doing anything more than assuaging her curiosity by poking and prodding at fairly harmless knobs and dials around the base, the smile Vanille offers up in greeting looks a little guilty. She feels somehow like she's a child at the orphanage in Oerba again, being scolded for making flower chains instead of doing her chores.] Umm...

]It hadn't really occurred to her to ask for assistance, especially not when all the other transports looked equally lost and confused. Besides, why should she ask someone to show her around when she has her own two functioning feet?

She shrugs off the uncertainty, and continues with the breezy cheer she's always been known for.]
I don't know! I just didn't think about it!

tragicomedienne: (☎ don't you know who you're dealing with)

[personal profile] tragicomedienne 2013-12-08 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's the problem, isn't it...

[Nanami murmurs this under her breath, her eyes rolling skyward for a moment (can't really think about skyward, anymore).

Almost a year of dealing with people who make these ridiculous displays has made Nanami feel like something of an expert...despite any of her own ridiculousness.
]

I'm serious! You can't just go walking out in space, can you?
smiled: (98 | I am always wrong)

[personal profile] smiled 2013-12-09 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
[There's Nanami, asking those hard-hitting questions that make no sense to Vanille. She's from a world with another world just floating there in the sky, the concept of outer space is totally foreign to her. So, of course, she interprets this using her own frame of reference.

She does look a bit confused, though.]
Ahh, if there's space, why wouldn't I be able to walk in it? [A quizzical frown.] It's not like anything else is taking up the room!

[personal profile] tragicomedienne 2013-12-15 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
No!

[Really, what does she care what happens?

But she does care if Vanille opens up something while she's in the room--Nanami isn't about to die just because some stupid girl can't get her brain together.
]

Ignorant people like you are putting all of us in danger! [She draws back, suddenly frightened.} You're not doing this on purpose, are you?

What if you're a spy?
smiled: (96 | keeping you off my mind)

[personal profile] smiled 2013-12-17 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
[It offends her somewhat, the assertion that she is both ignorant and endangering people. She just got here, after all, and can't help that she doesn't have a ton of information. What she's been doing, wandering around and poking curiously here and there, is trying to learn more about her surroundings. In her own Vanille way.

She crosses her arms, huffing under her breath. She's not putting anyone in danger by investigating, and she's about to say something to that effect when, well...

Who's the stupid one here?

Not Vanille.

But she is a little gullible, and also weird enough to get caught up in Nanami's nonsensical paranoia, so she immediately steps away from whatever she's been poking at, and raises her hands to her cheeks, and looks at Nanami with eyes shocked wide and a some measure of fear.]
There are spies here?
tragicomedienne: (☎ you're going backwards)

wow i could just lose this notif like a loser

[personal profile] tragicomedienne 2013-12-29 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
[That's exactly what a spy would say, she thinks a little smugly.]

How else do you think they've gotten our information before?

[The extremely nebulous they is likely not helpful at all, not to someone who just arrived, but it's also smug and important.]

Where did you come from? [she presses.]
smiled: (35 | tuum sanctuarium affligeas)

don't lie i kno u h8 me

[personal profile] smiled 2013-12-31 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's exactly what anyone would say when being accused of being a spy!

The question gives Vanille pause for a moment, before she decides she has no idea what this girl is talking about. But before she is able to venture a hesitant question in return, she is hit by another, one that gives her pause for even longer moments.

Before, she would have hemmed and hawed, made something up to avoid being found out for what all of Cocoon thought she was - a monster. But this is not Cocoon, and Vanille is proud of her homeland, beautiful for all its dangers. Besides, she'd promised to give up on that whole lying thing.

She looks Nanami in the eye, a defiant determination creeping into the set of her shoulders, the raising of her chin.]

I am from Gran Pulse.

[As if Nanami even knows where that is.]
tragicomedienne: (☎ boy you have landed)

I REJECT YOUR ASSUMPTIONS OF HATRED

[personal profile] tragicomedienne 2014-01-05 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
[How rude, to assume that Nanami wouldn't know where such a place was! How dare she, even.

Maybe she senses the defiance the way a shark might sense blood in the water, or knows that Vanille is small and alone and new (though she is thinking of someone...or recalling something she might have heard.
]

Do they have airlocks in Gran Pulse? Maybe you can learn something today.
