(no subject)

Date: December 1st
Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room; they show multiple variations of satellite images, focused on... somewhere snowy. It's difficult to say more than that, but those that record heat readings seem to suggest there are people there, where ever "there" is. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now. But, hey, at least all the lights are on, right? No more creepy red emergency lighting upon arrival — not that you'd know anything about that.

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, and to the remains of Exsilium.

"Heh. Sounds like someone I know." A few people, perhaps. "Being cooped up in a base on the moon might be more their style."

"Actually, yeah. That'd definitely be like Hal. He'd probably get along great with your friend if they ever met." Providing either appeared and that they could dear with Hal's love of Japanese animes.

"My friend doesn't make many friends, but it would be worth trying." Though just thinking about Tieria again makes him shift focus so he doesn't frown.

"Is that the only footage on the monitors? I figured if we're up here to spy on the other forces, there has to be something more interesting than a winter wasteland."

She didn't stop him from changing the subject, moving on to the next with him easily. She looked over the monitor, checking if she could change the footage before shaking her head.

"I'm afraid not. Seems like they want to keep close track of this location. Wonder what's so interesting about it."

"It could be somewhere in all the literature I was linked to, but to be honest I thought some of that stuff was going to make me go cross-eyed," he joked, and it was funny because he was able to even make that kind of joke again after such a short time. A man's got to make due with his eyes while he's got 'em.

"Or it could just be below the surface." Now he was taking a closer look at the controls to see if there is any way to switch to sensors. He isn't about to go randomly pushing buttons though.

With a little bit of poking around, Sunny could probably change the point of focus on the satellite that was looking down on the Earth, get a look around. Except, this was her first day and she didn't want to find herself in any trouble.

"I could probably change the channel but it would involve a little bit of hacking and rule breaking." Because hacking =/= rule breaking.

That choice of words doesn't go without a special mental note of his own. "It sounds like you've got a better handle of these consoles than I do." He sounds somewhat impressed.

"Admittedly? It's only because I've been working with computers since I was born. If I'd been raised normally, I wouldn't be nearly as good with technology."

And Hal hadn't done a thing to stifle her fascination with computers, following her rescue. It probably didn't help that he spent a good deal of time on the computer too though, helping Snake and working with Philanthropy.

"I don't think it's that abnormal. A whole lot more useful for a life skill to pick up early than chewing on blocks," he says in a joking manner, taking her comment a bit more literally. But if he didn't have his humor to compensate for the overwhelming setting change, Lockon would be in a bad way right now.

"Speaking of rules, though, I must have missed that in the documentation." He set his cracked helmet down on top of one of the monitors and pulls the tablet from his belt. "Not that there wasn't a ton of new information to digest..."

Sunny smiled, just a bit. Not many people really thought that way and it was nice to meet someone who did. Hal had spent some time trying to convince her that her upbringing wasn't abnormal either.

"Well... if you didn't notice any rules against it, I suppose there's no harm in trying. They probably have the satellite controls on a separate system though."

Lockon gestured to himself. "You can always just blame it on me if anyone asks. Say that I made you snoop around.

"Although, we should become familiar with our new surroundings if we're going to be calling it 'home'," he added with a shrug of his shoulder.

"I wouldn't want to get you into any trouble. Besides, Hal taught me to take responsibility for my own actions."

Unless they were illegal. As in, not saving the world type illegal.

"It'd probably be a good idea to get to know the place, yeah. Get to know what kind of security they have too, before I try. I don't want to accidentally start a lockdown or shut down a key system."

Lockon winced. "Yeah, that... would get you on the bad side of a lot of people, and quick." He shook his head. "You're thinking a lot further ahead than I am. That's good. Someone ought to be."

"It's what I do. Gotta think ahead to make a difference in the world!" This is the little girl that already has plans to get to Jupiter before Hal dies. Preferably, a long time before he dies.

And since there was already a space tourism project in the works, it meant she had a good chance of reaching that goal within ten years.

"I wonder how far those in charge thought ahead when they cooked up this plan," Lockon said with another gesture to the room at large.

He tucked away his tablet once more and picked up his helmet. "I think I'm going to go have a look around. I have a lot more questions for them." A piece of visor fell to the floor with a light sound but he just stared down at it for a long moment. "...and maybe I'll see if they have any duct tape."

"Judging by how many people I've seen and how much I've been able to see of the base, I'd hazard a guess at: not very far."

Sunny smiled a bit and then covered her mouth as part of his visor fell to the floor. Duct tape was definitely not going to help that.

"I think you might need something more than that."

Lockon let out a sigh and then picked up the piece. "No, you're right, but it's more about the sentimental value." Even if having a reminder of his last moments so handy is not a smart idea, all he has on him is all he carries as a physical reminder of home.

"I'm also going to take a look around and, who knows. Maybe I'll bump into someone who has some different answers."
