Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room; they show multiple variations of satellite images, focused on... somewhere snowy. It's difficult to say more than that, but those that record heat readings seem to suggest there are people there, where ever "there" is. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now. But, hey, at least all the lights are on, right? No more creepy red emergency lighting upon arrival — not that you'd know anything about that.

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

[Estelle watches, imitating Feferi and pressing the appropriate button. Okay, this doesn't seem....too hard. Messaging would be like letters. Sort of, from what she gathers. And those screens. That really is amazing.]

I'm sure if I at least learn the basics I can figure it out myself.

Yeah! It's really easy once you know how to do it, and then you can play around and find all kinds of neat stuff!

Okay, so you can send things that are just text, or it can be a recording of your voice, or it can be a video of you! See there, it gives you all those options? I'll let you pick one!

Really? I guess I will have to figure it out. You can do more than talk to people on it? Even those screens seemed amazing, let alone something more like this.

[She follows Feferi's explanation, nodding and staring at the tablet before trying the video option.]

Is that it? It's....on now?

Oh yeah! You can read, and play games, and... probably other things!

It's not on yet-- press that button, that will start it recording. When you are done, press it again!

[ At least, this is her preferred method. There's probably more than one... ]

Wait, did you say I can read with this? How does that work?

[Because evidently this pinged her and is totally more important than figuring out how to talk to people on it. Clearly this is the priority, at least for Estelle. This is such an amazing concept and idea for her. Just this tablet, not lugging around stacks of books.]

Yes! There's all kinds of information you can get by default, and if you know someone good with computers, they can probably get any book you want!

[ She knows ebooks are a thing but that's about the extent of it. Computers can do anything, though! ]

Computers? I guess I could maybe ask around at least. I'd love to be able to read on these things!

And we can get more information on these about this Initiative and Exsilium? These tablet things really are amazing! I wish we had something like this back home.

[Estelle can't hide her enthusiasm and curiosity, still eager to learn but distracted at talk of books and the like.]

A-anyway, lets see....it was this button, right?

Oh yeah, there's tons of information about all that!

[ But yes, messaging. ]

That's it, that button! Try it! Record a little message and press that button again, and then I'll tell you what to do next.

That's good. I was hoping. I mean, I think I sort of get the idea of the basics, but I would still like to know more. This is all kind of a lot to take in.

Okay....[Estelle nods, looking determined as she pushes the button. There's a pleased smile and wave as she thinks she has the idea. She briefly says hello, a short message to practice. Once done, she pushes the same button again to finish]

There! So now how do I send that to everyone?

Well, I don't know if you want to send it to everyone yet, but if you did, you'd press that right there...

[ She points, and waits a moment for Estelle to follow along, so she can move on to pointing out how to tell it where to send. ]

And then there! That will go to the whole network, but if you go to the option under it, you can look up people by name. Why don't you try looking me up, it's under P! P-E-I-X-E-S!

Oh. Okay....

[She nods, listening and learning. Eager to take the advice, given Estelle is always able to tell when to learn from others who clearly know more, in spite of some others with her status possibly not considering that. The idea that others are more knowledgeable.]

P....P, okay, let's see....oh, there it is! So that means I just send the message to you?

[fintastic]

Yes! If you wanted to, you could send it to multiple people too, but let's just send it to me for now, and I can show you how it looks when I get it!

[astion]

Okay. Let's see....this button will send it to just you then?

[Double checking, because Estelle is eager to get this right and not mess up. That would seem like a waste of poor Feferi's time in helping to try and teach her all of this, after all. And Estelle would feel terrible if that were the case.]

[fintastic]

Yes, go ahead! Try it!

[ Feferi is more a fan of the brute force method... fail until you get it right. But she looks confident enough. ]

[astion]

Okay....

[And. There. Well, she thinks she has got it sorted at least. Hopefully. It's a work in progress, learning all of this. But Estelle focuses on the tablet and figuring it out from her instructions.]

[fintastic]

That's right! Now, wait for it...

[ There's a few seconds between when Estelle sends, and when Feferi's tablet dings (or rather, makes a bubbly noise; she never liked the default anyway) and she gestures to the screen, showing she has a new message. ]

See! There it is! Now if I just do this...

[ And she shows how to bring it up, and how to play it back. ]

Ah, it worked!

[Estelle seems rather excited at that, hearing the noise and message as she leans in a bit closer to watch Feferi.]

I think I get the idea. It's really amazing.

[ Feferi is equally excited that Estelle's excited. It's not hard to get her all worked up. ]
