EVENT: HERE THERE BE MONSTERS
Date & Time: October 24 - October 31
Location: Throughout Exsilium
Characters: ALL; tag yourselves in
Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)
The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.
Instead, there is only silence.
That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

Of course, he was not about to fully disregard the woman who caused this little blunder in the first place. Shadow gave a snarl, a general one, but partially aimed in her direction.
"Does it matter?" He wasn't about to give this girl any special attention. It was pointless, really. He was, however, not about to go without warning her not to do that again.
no subject
Tori didn't particularly care about this... whatever he was either, but like hell if she was going to let anyone do anything stupid enough to get killed where she could witness it.
She once again found herself having to creating a small burst of wind to get monsters a safe distance away from her in able to make the final kill. Why where there so many?! It was really beginning to piss her off.
no subject
At any rate, he wasn't going to stay for long. This girl may have needed help, but he was just going to ward away enough monsters to give him leverage for more homing attacks.
Shadow worked with no one.
... He had to admit to feeling a bit guilty about leaving this girl on her own, though.
no subject
Probably because those stupid monsters weren't letting up, no matter how many were taken out. "Oh, come on!"
no subject
Shadow was not in the mood to joke around here. He had to eliminate the numbers in front of him in order to get some decent homing space. Instead, he was being piled upon by more and more of them, as was this girl.
"Dammit," he snarled, going hand-to-hand while his Chaos Energy regenerated naturally. "Stay... down!"
no subject
It didn't look like Shadow was getting too much space, either. Another gust was sent his way, blowing some of the monsters away but hopefully causing any disruption to him. She then she focused her attention on a monster coming toward her, shooting it before it came too close.
"Shit. They just keep coming...!"
no subject
"Chaos Control!"
In a flash, he dashed through the scum, his mysterious abilities working and decimating a large amount of the numbers. Would he get a verbal beating for this? Perhaps, but he didn't care. This was not for this girl, after all; he was doing this for himself.
At least he could say this much: there was now a lot more space to work with.

Tori tried to not let too much of her guard down, but with what she just witnessed--well, it was hard not to. So, there really were major differences between worlds. She knew that already, but to see it in action like this...
"That was amazing! Guess I was wrong to snap at you...!" Spoken while making sure she didn't get herself in danger, of course. While there was a lot more room, she still really didn't feel like getting her ass kicked.
no subject
Well, at least this one was a little less foolish than the young phantom.
"I do not treat my abilities lightly," he informed her, not yet making his move to homing attack. He watched as the numbers began to increase again, beasts approaching little-by-little. Maybe he could stick around for a little bit more, just to see if this one was worth defending. "Nor should anyone else."
no subject
Tori was very much still on guard as she talked to him, especially with the boost in numbers of the creatures. Still, she shot the hedgehog a grin. "It won't happen again."
Raising her gun, she didn't waste time in starting to shoot again. She was really hoping to not have to dip into her magic much more--while useful, she knew exactly what would happen if she overdid it by mistake.
no subject
What he was sure of, however, was one of the monsters attempting to sneak up on his fellow transport, ready to pounce on top of her and do the unthinkable. His blood ran cold in that moment, and in that moment, he growled loudly to her. "Watch out!"
He reacted quickly, tackling the monster down before it could even lay a hand on her. He had to act fast or this thing was going to injure him. He knew he could handle it, but he was not about to sustain wounds when he hadn't even gotten to the big bads yet. Thus, he took a bit of a gruesome action. He dug his hand into the creature's chest, making it shriek horribly until it suddenly grew lifeless.
"Hmph," he sounded, tossing the crushed vital organ over his shoulder casually. He just totally ripped that thing's heart out with his bare hands. O... kay then!
no subject
Well, that... that was one way to take care of business.
Her eyes were wide. Yes, the sight was gruesome. However, she was pretty certain that her companion had just saved her life. She wasn't sure what to say--
"Shit!"
--nor did she really get the chance to figure it out. There was not only one, but a couple of monsters approaching Shadow now. She probably couldn't shoot both quickly enough, either.
"Get down!"
She held her hand out, allowing the magic the course through and out of her body, sending a very small twisted toward the monsters. That should take care of them and maybe one more, at least.
Unfortunately, that took a number out of her as well. So much for not overdoing it by mistake.
no subject
He could, however, get back to the safe zone in a pinch.
He didn't waste any time in rushing to her side, not even thinking before he acted, for once. He wrapped one arm around her waist, holding her close enough for his power to affect her, as well, and...
"Chaos Control!"
One minute, they were in the battlefield. The next, they were in a dark little part of the safe area, hidden away from any possible nasties or even allies. He grunted, dropping down to his knees, exhausted from having to travel with her in tow.
Why...
Why did he rescue this girl?
no subject
Of course, she was also pretty disoriented. For one, she had been grabbed and taken away from the battlefield before she could even figure out what the hell was happening.
For another thing... well, his arm was wrapped around her waist.
While she was flustered, she wasn't going to make a big deal out of it. Which was uncommon for her, but she too was exhausted. She held a hand up to her mouth, coughing for a good few moments.
When that finally died down, she laughed weakly. "I screwed things up for you, didn't I?"
no subject
He shook his head before facing away from her entirely.
"Be glad I saved your life. I rarely give transports that sort of privilege." The privilege of being saved by the Ultimate Lifeform with a heart as cold as frosted winter glass was pretty big in his mind.
That, and at least this girl was more receptive than a certain blond he knew.
no subject
"You think I'm not?"
The question came out more quiet than she intended. She knew she wouldn't have been able to survive out there by herself. Not being strong enough to do so frustrated the hell out of her, but she was happy to be alive. She wasn't aiming to die. Not back home, and not here either.
"If you do, you're wrong. Actually, I'm pretty damn grateful that you saved my ass."
Though being grateful wasn't quite enough to stop her from being a tad on the brazen side...
no subject
"You were lucky. Be more careful out there and do not overexert yourself. Next time, I likely will not be there to rescue you."
Of course, though, he did this time. She was safe, he was safe, and they were still on good terms instead of her questioning his morality. Oh, no, he's killing people out of self-defense. How horrible... except not. Shadow frankly didn't care. These lives were nothing to him. If they were going to try to kill him, they were plenty due for a karmic response.
Ha... at least he wasn't alone in his thinking.
If Tori looked carefully, she may or may not have seen a small smile spread across his muzzle.
no subject
"Immortal or not, there were two of those things fast approaching you. I had to do something, even if it put me in a pinch."
She stretched a little, wondering how long they'd stay where they were. More chit-chat was probably in order, or things might get boring. Besides, she hadn't introduced herself yet. "Name's Tori, by the way. Figured it would be rude not to tell you that, since you saved my life and all."
no subject
"Yet you are not immortal. Either you die or I get majorly injured and live. The choice should be clear."
He paused, eyeing her for a brief second before speaking up again.
"... Shadow."
no subject
Still, he had a point and she knew it. She sighed, willing to let that subject drop if he was.
"Shadow, huh? That's a pretty simple name, but it's nice."
no subject
With that out of the way, though, Shadow didn't have much point staying here. He gave her a curt nod, telling her, "Be careful. Do not get back into the battlefield until you are sure you can handle it."
He doesn't even say goodbye, leaping over a trash can and whisking away. It's back to business.
