EVENT: HERE THERE BE MONSTERS

Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)

The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.

Instead, there is only silence.

That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

[The blue-beanied man is not aware of Adam's allergic reaction, but he sees the drowned tablet and the wasted drink, and he figures the guy needs something, and Nick is okay with giving the guy water. He's making sure his child-friends have things to keep them nourished, at least.]

[ Tech can be really, really fickle, including his own. Even if it is state-of-the-art.

And maybe he really should be drinking more water, he's stubbornly sticking to alcohol even though it does him no favors except being converted fairly quickly to energy, but the joy of drinking is it practically nonexistent.

Give him a few moments to reboot, Phoenix. Adam's reaction/reply is a little delayed because of this. ]

... Yeah, why not.

Gee. You're almost totally out of it.

[Phoenix isn't tech-savvy enough to realize that was a pause taken to reboot, not a pause taken by a drunk guy trying to reorient himself. He takes it in stride as he crouches by Adam, holding out a bottle of water.]

[ ... he actually doesn't mind if Phoenix thinks he's just had a little too much. Better than any of those questions.

Still, when he takes the bottle of water, Phoenix will PROBABLY notice that Adam's hands are not quite... normal... but made of metal. ]

[It could very likely be a prosthetic and people can be sensitive about that. He doesn't comment.]

How are you doing?

manners. ]

There are giant mutated monsters roaming the streets. How do you think.

[He is a mature, grown man!]

I don't know, everyone reacts differently. Pretty tired and stressed?

Let's just say 'busy'. I can manage stress and exhaustion, but I'm not exactly a civilian.

That's right. You were a pro, huh?

But you're busy enough to knock over booze, so I think you should just drink water.

That concerned, hm.

[ THE BOOZE ISN'T THE PROBLEM his body processes it quickly enough (too quickly, sadly) but things are starting to wear him a little out. Pro or not, Adam's still just a human. Who would've thought. ]

Shouldn't you be hiding somewhere?

I've been in the safe zone for most of this time now. I'm okay.

Who knows for how much longer it'll be 'safe', though. Some of the damn things have already breached the perimeter.

Then I have to stay out here. The adults take care of the younger ones, and some kids here are pretty reckless.

I noticed. Think they'll listen to you?

If all the youngsters I've dealt with in my life are anything to go by, probably not, but I can at least try.
