EVENT: HERE THERE BE MONSTERS

Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)

The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.

Instead, there is only silence.

That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

Shishishi! Aw, but we could throw a party like that! You'd be the main attraction!

[... there's a long pause before Luffy speaks again.] You... really think you can get home? And come back alive?

Yes. [ the answer comes quickly, easily, and his eyes are determined. every bit of his d is shining through as he says it.

but he pauses, and has to amend himself. ]

Going back to Marineford is too risky. If changing the past here did this, [ he gestures to the monsters ] who knows what it could do at home? But I think I can make it back to your time.

[ it pains him to say it. he wants to change the past so badly. he wants to make sure pops survives, wants oars to live. but changing the past changes the future, he's been able to figure that much out. luffy's scar stands out on his chest and ace thinks, knows his little brother surviving was a close thing. so even though it rips him in two to have to make a decision like this, he's not going to risk killing luffy to bring back the dead. he can't. ]

[Luffy's not the smartest person, and he doesn't even know how the time travel works. But if Ace thinks there's a way for him to get home to Luffy's time...] I wanna help!

[There's no hesitation, and just as much determination as Ace.] I want you back!

Of course you can help. I'm not going to do this without you.

[ his determined expression turns a little more serious, if that's possible. ] You're going to get me back. I promise. [ a beat, and he smiles ] Not that you really need me looking out for you anymore...

Really!? [He grins, throwing hist arms around his brother for a big hug.] Great! It'll... make up for losing you.

[The last sentence makes him laugh.] So what? I want you back home with me, and that's all that matters! I'll do it, Ace, promise!
