Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)

The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.

Instead, there is only silence.

That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

Oh! [Her smile is not quite as wide as it could be but.] Our session had a Page of Breath. He... never really did anything. Whatever potential he may have had remained largely untapped.

I still don't have a clue what any of the aspects or anything really mean. My friend tried to tell me about some but I didn't really understand all of it.

We didn't get that far on personal quests in our session either.

Well I guess it doesn't even matter or any more anyways since we're here and all, and away from Sburb's influence.

Yeah, I'm not even sure it would be possible for us to expand on our aspects out of the medium. Who knows if we're even ascending our echeladders anymore.

Who knows, but I'm guessing not.

Our entire lives were so thoroughly molded by the abstractions the game imposed...

Yeah, but I really doubt this has anything to do with it. Nobody else here knows about the game or anything to do with it.

It's so strange how it doesn't matter anymore. We didn't even create this universe.

Maybe it's just one of the other earths in the space frog that we didn't know about? And it just hasn't got destroyed yet or something.

...oh, wow. I didn't even consider the possibility. That's a depressing concept, that the reckoning [or red miles but IDK if she knows about that???] could come here someday.

Well this is Earth right? Which means it must be another type of Earth from my Earth or my Mom that you knew's Earth.

And Calliope said all that stuff about different universes being in the imaginary space frog thingy and that the miles crap was killing it. And that if the frog is dying that means all the universes in it will die too, just at different times.

So yeah. That means it will happen here too at some point right?

Yeah but who knows when it could happen. Like, I remember that shit just coming out of nowhere then it's bam! You're dead. And your house is all sorts of fucked up.

Oh yes. I got a lot accomplished. I've been making some progress on my marksmanship as well.

Do you think you will some other day or just stay out.

Yeah, I guess it came at a bad time, like I need to practice more with my weapon and I'm way too hung over right now for just going in fistkind to even be a thing where I think I could come out of it not dead or completely well and truly owned.

So unless it gets actually proper bad I think I'm gonna stay here for now.

Sometimes it seems like we can never get a break. It's fortunate that we can even maintain as large a safe area as this. [She looks into the distance.] I might have to go back out there myself before long, actually.
