EVENT: HERE THERE BE MONSTERS

Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)

The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.

Instead, there is only silence.

That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

"Really?" And that's suddenly very interesting to her, though her attention still stays primarily on their surroundings. "I wasn't aware this wasn't the only place with this problem."

"Oh, no, I was interned in a human mental hospital against my will for ten Earth months. As was my companion. The one you saw with me on my first broadcast." She's very matter of fact about this whole affair - it's not the first time she's explained this - and doesn't let the conversation distract her any more from the situation than it has thus far.

"How did you get there?" If there's any more interdimensional kidnapping going on, that's definitely something she wants to know more about. Good thing this patrol is quiet so far.

"Interdimensional grubnapping. It's a common human business model from what I understand."

Seriously, she's just assumed it's endemic to Earth institutions.

"I think most people would consider it quite unusual, really. But perhaps it's worth looking into as a growing problem." Because if there was more than just this place, that was sort of a problem.

She shrugs half-heartedly. "Half my species gathered here has been through such an ordeal. Feferi Peixes was taken to New Mexico, Sollux Captor to a castle..."

"I wasn't aware." Thoughtful, but then she shrugs it off. "Perhaps someone will look into it. If it's common."

"There was another human at least who'd been through it too." What was his name again? Ah-- "Kanji."

"I'm sure someone's looking into it," she said, and firmed her grip on her weapon. Sometimes she felt a little guilty that she'd ceased to look into new theories of how to get home, but most of the time these days she didn't. "And if not, it doesn't particularly matter."

"I guess it's trivial." Getting home was pretty much the opposite of Kanaya's desires. Undeath in Exsilium was happier than she'd been... well, ever since she left home, but "home" in the proper sense was impossible now after the apocalypse on Alternia.

"Our situation doesn't bother me very much; only not understanding it."

"Essentially." Roslyn could sympathize with that a little bit, if she knew. It's not that she doesn't want to return home, but she'd cut all ties there anyways. And here she has people she wants to look after now.

"Understanding it has so far proven impossible."

[speakveryclearly]

"We just need to concentrate harder. And focus more on the truth when it's offered to us." She hardens, and unconsciously briskens her pace.

"I abhor it when people express distrust of the initiative... their competence, maybe; their honesty? Less."
