transport log » ❝ welcome to Exsilium ❞
Date & Time: December 1st
Location: The Initiative Hold
Characters: Everyone!
Summary: New transports are probably way less pleased about their arrival than their designated greeter appears to be. What are we saying, probably.
Warnings: No, unless you hate joy and laughter.
You, dear Transport, are in for an extra special treat. This is not just any standard protocol information session, although you're still required to listen to the obligate spiel and chooseyour own adventure your fancy new equipment (or something more familiar, if you'd rather). Once 'the boring part' is over, an excitable blonde with a hairstyle out of a Dr. Seuss book begins ushering you down the halls. Although she glosses over the history of the place that you've found yourself in, she seems much more enthused about telling you that you've arrived in the best month of the year.
It's highly probable that Becky (for that is her name, really) was chosen for this particular batch of Transports not because of her blinding devotion to her informational duties, but to give the other workers in her division of the Hold a few moments of rest from her chipper voice. Any snark or sniping is brushed off easily enough by the bubbly woman as she leads you further into the Hold. She lets you know that although there are serious reasons for you to be here, you should try to include yourself in the local customs in order to foster a feeling of hominess and unity, as that sort of thing is very important...and keeps in close tradition with Non-Denominational Cheer Day, a holiday coming up quickly toward the end of the month. She even presents you with a pink, blue and silver bow made from surprisingly high-quality ribbon along with your netbook, coinpurse or card before she ushers you into the banquet room and encourages you to 'mix with your fellow man – or whatever they might be!'
She disappears with a twirl of bright blue skirt and you're left to your own devices in the banquet room. Perhaps in an effort to make up for the previous month's somewhat lack-luster party (who had time to plan a proper spread when parts of the building weren't even functioning?), the eight-person tables are dressed with various solid-coloured tablecloths overlaid with shimmery silver material. The entire room looks a little bit more 'frosty' than usual (fake snow was so 21st century) – the walls glitter with what looks to be some sort of spray-on ice crystals (they're probably plastic).
Winter beverages line one side of the banquet hall – hot toddies, cider, and hot chocolate with all of the proper fixings – while the other has no shortage of warming foods like stews and casseroles. There's no shortage of cookies for dipping, if that's your thing. Surely you'll be able to find something to eat, or at least someone to talk to...

late, but!
And so, that was how he ended up almost running Yosuke over before realizing he was there.
"Whoa--sorr... Yosuke-senpai?" He paused, taking it in, first shocked and confused but then equal parts delighted and concerned.
"It's great to see you-- uh, not that I'd wish being here on anybody, I mean. Sorry about that, I guess."
He was shuffling in a familiar way from the awkwardness, but was definitely different. Taller, for one, and wearing bright colors with intricate designs. And his once carefully dyed hair had both grown out a lot and hadn't seen dye anywhen recent.
no I'm slow too and oh so happy to see you! Hi.
Woah. Woah. Yosuke rubbed at his sore side dumbly and stared. Up, up, up, and somewhere in the clouds up there was a familiar face. He jerked backwards in surprise, and fell promptly and gracelessly onto his ass. Considering it felt like a stone wall had just plowed into him -and then politely excused itself- it didn't take much to knock him over anyway.
"Tatsumi?" He asked, gawking a bit. Did that guy get taller? Seriously? Of all the useless things for him to do here! He was already at least triple what a reasonable size would be, and now this. Even more shocking is that Naoto was seriously not kidding about him having been here a while. It's obvious right away. With his hair like that, and the strange clothing...
Yosuke just sort of gapes unhelpfully. It doesn't even occur to him to get back on his feet for a moment, and then he clumsily stumbles up and grasps the table. The drink spilled, but that's easy enough to ignore, considering.
"Woah. What happened to you?"
glacial is my middle name hahahasob
Even though he knows he couldn't help it, Kanji feels a little bad. He rubs at his neck and doesn't meet Yosuke's gaze. "You want the long version, man? I woulda come home but..."
No way out, and that's depressing, so he tries his best to change the subject. "So what's up with you? Anything interesting goin' on at home?"
me too dude it's fine!
He asks it uncertainly, not as sure of himself as he was at first, before he ran into Naoto. What if Kanji doesn't remember the same things he does, either? Obviously they're past the bath house in Kanji's timeline, or he'd still be trying to wrong Yosuke's neck. But that's about all the information he can be sure of without asking. And asking is kind of sticky. It makes his brain melt in his head a little bit.
no subject
Kanji says that very seriously, looking Yosuke over critically. He doesn't pick up on any obvious changes, but who knows how much Yosuke would have changed even in a year or more.
"You don't... look different than I remember."
Damn it, autocorrect.
He's just repeating himself now, but it sort of bears repeating. Wait, crap. When did he start making stupid best puns in his head, anyway? That's just great.
Yosuke rubs the space between his eyes for a second, sort of confused and irritated. This is kind of a lot of bizarre crap to take in at once. At least last time something crazy happened he got superpowers out of the deal, and collapsed into his own bed that night. This is totally worse.
"It gets worse. After we save you, I mean. There are more, and...ugh. I'm not even sure if I should say anything."
He rubs at the spot on his head again, starting to feel a full throb there. But he shakes his head out and tries to ignore it for now. There's a bed somewhere with his name on it after this party at least.
"At least you got stuck here with Shirogane, heh?"
no subject
This is awkward, and Kanji shifts nervously, shuffling his feet against the floor. He brightens a little at the mention of Naoto, with a dopey smile. Naoto always makes him feel happy--nervous as hell too, but happy.
"Yeah, I'm glad she's here. I was alone at first an' it's way better to have someone around. It'll be better with you here too."
no subject
Maybe they weren't from such different times after all. And really, it wouldn't make sense for Kanji to have been gone before...well. Before Yosuke, because...except that apparently Yosuke had just left before Znaoto did, and yet she hasn't said anything about him missing at home. Maybe what they'd said about everyone returning to their own place in time eventually was true somehow.
The pain between his eyes spiked again and he pressed the heel of his palm to it, still trying to sort the situation out.
"Hey, um. I was there, right? The whole time, I mean.."
no subject
Heaven though... that was months ago, so Kanji frowned for a few moments. Would Yosuke remember if he says something by accident and reveals what will happen? Ugh, it made his head hurt.
"I remember Heaven. Nanako-chan an' ... yeah. So that's the last thing you remember?"
Ugh tiny phone keys ugh
That came out as a statement, instead of the question he wanted it to be. This whole situation wasn't what any of them wanted it to be, though. Yosuke shook his head, and finally shrugged it off.
"You'd tell me if I died though, right?"
no subject
And oh boy, he didn't know how to answer that. He wasn't positive, but he was pretty sure, when Izanami-- But they were all alive after, so that's what really mattered, right? He cleared his throat.
"Uh. Yeah. We were all alive, last I saw."
no subject
Holy shit. That's definitely a big difference. But it's good to hear that they'll all survive the next few months, at least. Yosuke nods. It could definitely be worse than that.
"Well, as long as you're almost done growing I guess I can forgive you for that."
no subject
There was an awkward pause as he searched for something else to say, but he finally found it. "So, found your way around yet?"
no subject
Yosuke wanders a few steps away to the nearest refreshment table and teasingly picks up something that by all means seems to be coffee. When he takes a swig it burns going down though, and he splutters, not very graceful. Eugh, that tastes like motor oil or something! Did they put liquor in everything here? Gross.
...He'll have to check his chest for hair later, just in case.
"Wow, but not this coffee. It's really strong. Anyway, aside from the 'hi you're our war prisoners now but we'll pay you' tour I've only been in this room so far."
no subject
Kanji can't help laughing a little at the display with the coffee, but it's not mocking.
"Yeeeah, some of 'em really shouldn't be making food for anybody. 'course a lot of the things they've got to use as ingredients are weird too. An' they tell you where your room is? I can show you around the city a bit if you want, man."
no subject
The coffee gets unceremoniously deposited back onto the table where some other poor fool might get not only a lousy beverage but one full of teenage boy saliva to boot.
"Is there much to see, though? I heard nuclear winter. That doesn't sound very your friendly to me."
no subject
The question makes him frown a little and eventually he shrugs.
"Yeah, it ain't the best place for sightseein' but there are people here, an' they've got shops and stuff, you know? An' it doesn't hurt to know your way around in case of monsters and shit."
no subject
'Cause dude, hold the phone. They didn't mention any monsters during that intro.
no subject
He is excited and feels like this is very important info to relay, and so the complete 180 in topic doesn't feel awkward to Kanji at all.
no subject
Yosuke rolls his eyes and scrubs at his face as if he's getting a headache again. He kind of is. Are they supposed to keep it a secret here? Are they allowed to tell people? It's a question for Souji, but Souji isn't around to answer it.
no subject
For a moment he doesn't understand Yosuke's reaction, but then it clicks and Kanji looks sheepish.
"I ain't exactly keepin' it secret here. People get it, or get havin' powers, anyway. With all the different people and powers here, most of 'em don't bat an eye."
no subject
That doesn't make the headache go away completely, but it definitely makes the question of whether they should go along with it or not easier.
no subject
Kanji is aware that that isn't the best explanation, and that Yosuke is new, while he's had months and months (and months) to get used to things. So he gives an awkward pat on Yosuke's shoulder.
"You'll get used to all the strange shit; don't worry too hard about it."
no subject
The pat is a nice gesture. It confirms some sort of solidarity, and camaraderie in all this. It doesn't quite make the head rush go away, though. At least monsters are sort of familiar territory. Everyone knows what to do when confronted with monsters.
no subject
He shrugs, trying to remember if there's anything else important about the monsters.
"I know those UE guys sent 'em, after one of the missions."
