MISSION: RELEASE THEM BACK INTO THE WILD

Location: Wollongong, Australia, 2464.
Characters: All voluntary transports + maybe a few drafted ones.
Summary: Make those stay-at-homes leave their nerdcaves! My god, do they even know what sunshine looks like???

The city is old, dark, and very, very quiet. A good deal of the buildings are crumbling and old, but the ones that are actually inhabited glow like candles in the dusk the Transporter has dropped you into. All of these buildings are infested by wiring pouring in from every angle, ensuring that each inhabitant in his or her little block of a room has every modern convenience available in 2464.

There is no one on the streets, no public transportation, and even cars look scarce. But that doesn't mean there's no movement. Maintenance drones, controlled remotely, run deliveries or work repairs. Armed law enforcement drones patrol on rounds through the city, although their mechanized attention is mostly turned outward. Still, they might come to investigate a ruckus within the city limits. And if the persons causing the ruckus don't respond to peaceful attempts to get them to cease, the drones might attempt to subdue them with paralyzing technology and haul them in for a night in the city jail — another dark, unused place.

If you get hungry, there are entire warehouses dedicated to the production of foods. It can't be that hard to sneak in and collect a meal, right? Or you can hack into the system and order whatever you want, if you're good with that kind of thing. Or you can just scavenge—or fast for four days, maybe—if thieving and hacking aren't your style.

And somewhere around here, in those glowing, secluded towers, behind the legions of automated drones, live the reclusive citizens of Wollongong. The methods are up to you, as long as you can get them to come out and breathe the fresh air somehow.

...You just asked that because of my hair, didn't you?

[ Her expression could not be more unimpressed if she tried. ]

No.

[ She reasoned it out, instead. No ice and she has heard of lightning striking wood and starting fires. ]

[wilder]

[Hey man it's a stereotype and he knows it!]

Right.

Yeah, fire's one of them.

So what are you doing?

[wilder]

Destroying power boxes to cause a black out!

[wolfchild]

[ She looks up at one of the few boxes left in the area. ]

How will that do it?

[wilder]

Well...how much do you know about electricity?

[wolfchild]

It's what the lights use. In the Hold.

[ She spent a good ten minutes flicking the lights on and off in her and Morgana's rooms when they first got there. When Morgana is not there, she plays with them some more. ]

[wilder]

Right. And for that to work, electricity's gotta reach the light!

This thing? Is how it reaches it.

[wolfchild]

Oh. That's really clever then. Most people I've seen are just breaking everything they can.

[a shrug] I thought about doing that, but I figured I'd wear myself out before I get anything really done.

[wolfchild]

That wouldn't be good.

[ She walks over to where one of the pieces from a box fell. She picks it up to examine the damage. The direwolf remains where the girl left her, never once taking her eyes off Zelos. ]

[wilder]

Nope, sure wouldn't.

So what are you doing?

[Since hey, who ever heard of people just wanting to be social??]

[wolfchild]

[ Without looking up: ] Talking to you.

[wilder]

And your plan for the mission?

[wolfchild]

To help somewhere, I guess. [ She dusts her hands off. ] We get paid just for coming along. That will be my food.

[wilder]

Huh?

What doesn't your normal salary cover all your food?

[wolfchild]

I have to feed her too. [ She nods to the wolf. ] The Initiative saddled me with her. In that weapons place, she jumped me and the woman said she was to be my weapon. I've been stuck with her since. There's not a lot to hunt except the animals outside and those all look wrong. So I have to get us both food. She'd eat a cow a week if I could afford it.

[wilder]

Funny, I don't remember any animals in the weapons room.

[wolfchild]

Mayhaps there weren't any when you were brought.

[wilder]

Or you're lying to get me to pity you.

[wolfchild]

[ If he's looking for any signs of lying, there are none. ]

If I wanted pity, I'd say I was sleeping in the streets. I don't need anyone's pity.
