Summary: Transports have been sent to Neo Las Vegas to gather information on the origin point of the United Earth and the UE AI. Conference sabotage and the rest is expected and invited!

By day, the landscape isn't desert, precisely, so much as it is dry. Winter's settled in and found in the biting chill of the wind when it finds you standing on the street. Hovercars and taxis thrum down the cobblestone streets, cavorting and honking like a noisy crowd of inelegant, overweight geese. Men walk by on stilts half in make-up, on their way back to their stage for the next night. Walks of shame are taken proudly in this district, one of the few approved and sanctioned vacation zones in the United Earth.

Evidence of law enforcement can be found all around, but they seem altogether too pleased to be there too. Talk with any one of them about crime rates, and they're liable to laugh at the idea. Those who come to gamble know the house is rigged to win. It's not about making or breaking the bank -- people whose funds dip too low are politely escorted back to their rooms and given a set of normal playing cards -- but it is about enjoyment.

Of the flesh too, and it'd be difficult to find anyone working in Neo Las Vegas who suffers from modesty, or anyone visiting who seems unwilling to politely ask visitors and staff if they'd like to keep them company for the night. In fact, Transports may find themselves needing to turn down multiple such requests! The refusal is always taken well. These are people looking to have a good time, and that's all.

No chance taken, nothing gained, right?

At night, the city really comes alive, the lights in all the hotels and casinos turning the Neo Las Vegas Strip into a carnival of sensation. Drinks and recreational drugs are freely passed around, men and women engage in a variety of sexual and other hedonistic excesses without regret, and the beautiful interiors and ostentatious or playful exteriors of the buildings hide and reveal a rich tapestry of events, delectables, and desires waiting to be fulfilled.

Neo Las Vegas is a fun place, and it is a safe place, and it is Where the Conferences For Our Future Are Made. Playtime is on, gang.

[Even if he's not too familiar with Caesar himself, Jaime can tell that they're from the same place considering the tablet he's got running and the wry remark.]

You think? They're only offering drugs on the street. No way that could possibly go wrong.

[He has the benefit of having the Scarab produce the appropriate clothing for the event, though unlike Caesar, his general demeanor doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the crowd. He's frankly a little awkward at the best of times, but he's managed mostly by loitering nearby groups and looking bored out of his mind.]

[ Caesar has being bored-looking and calm down to an art form, mostly because that's exactly what he is. When you're raised to face down armies, a convention isn't anything more an a nuisance.

When Jaime addresses him, he'll look over and pause long enough to decide that, yes, he does recognize him as one of them. ]

Oh, no, nothing whatsoever. It's not as though our group is full of people with absolutely no impulse control or anything.

Or full of people who like arguing really loudly in public?

[Which is a baaaaaad idea, here on enemy territory. He's not so certain that people will refrain from giving themselves away, frankly, even with the tech at work hiding the non-humans' exposing characteristics from sight.

He bumps the back of his head against the wall a little, leaning against it.]

Any clue on why they decided to send everyone over?

[ And likely using powers or acting bizarre in broad daylight, although the latter might not even be noticed in a place like this! ]

Desperation? They're actually still that incompetent? They wanted to get rid of everyone for a while for whoever knows why? There's plenty of possibilities, but you'd need to ask them.

[ There was barely even any warning to prepare, which is only all the more annoying. ]

Eh, maybe the third one? It only takes a few people to listen in and take down some notes, [he points out, settling his crossed arms across his chest and shrugging. He might actually ask them later on, if he thinks that they're at all inclined to answer. He hums in thought underneath his breath, gaze traveling around their ostentatious surroundings before offering,] I'm Jaime, by the way.

The name's Caesar.

[ He could go on and say it's nice to meet him, but, really, it isn't, not in this situation. Or any, at anytime, while the Initiative or UE are involved. He also won't offer a hand, as he's inclined to keep fiddling with his tablet. ]

And yes, I'd have to agree on it being the third one. We'll have to corner the team and ask them about it afterwards.

[Caesar... Caesar... ah. The name does ring a bell, and he finally figures out where he knows it from - other than around the network, where he sees so many names and hears so many voices that it's a wonder he can keep most of it straight.]

Hey, I've heard of you. You're the guy who went on that mission with Collette, right?

[ He's heard of him!

In relation to Collette... Yeah, that seemed par the course. ]

The long one? Yes. That would be me.

Yeah, that's the one. Unless you guys were real keeners and went on another already.

[He wouldn't bet that against Collette, truth be told.]

You guys settling back in okay? Really poorly planned Vegas trips aside, I mean.

[ It might be surprising how tempting that would be.

A year away from this place was tough, but warmer, nicer, and had much better food. ]

I guess? We've had to set up shop in the warehouse due to housing constraints, but it could be worse.

Huh, sucky.

[He had already offered Collette to stay at his place; the fact that she hasn't accepted means that she's more comfortable in the warehouse than with other roomies, and he doesn't feel the need to push the subject.]

It's probably not all that crowded anyway, right? A whole lot of people have been sent back home in the past couple of weeks. Lot of the newbies, too.

[ Whatever offers Collette had gotten, Caesar's not aware. It technically wasn't his business to pry anymore. ]

Not crowded, no, but the heating is dreadful and now it's feeling creepier with the lack of people. There's very little privacy, too, which is the worst. Even with fewer people, it's all wide open space.

They should really put some sort of dividers up or something, [Jaime says thoughtfully, though that's all in the abstract to him - he's not the one living there, after all. Not for the first time, he's grateful to Maya for finding them their cozy little home.]

But I might be able to give you guys a hand with the heating thing until you find someplace better. Did you know Dist, back when he was around?
