(open) celebrating everything it took to free us from the land of the broken and betrayed

Date & Time: February 12th - February 14th
Location: Throughout Exsilium
Characters: ANY & ALL
Summary: Separation Awareness Day is a festival and time of celebration for the hard won and retained freedoms of those who live on the island of Exsilium. Separate from the United Earth, they continue to exist, and thrive in their own way. As those identified as teenagers and children are showered with gifts of sweets, foods, and toys from the adult population, merchants are selling on the streets and color had invaded the often grey atmosphere. Feasting is practically a law, singing can be heard in the streets, and instruments that may stay safely indoors most the year are brought out to encourage dancing and such other frivolities as are rarely seen.

The night of the 14th there are fireworks shows throughout the city, with the most impressive display being launched from the remains of Buckingham Palace.

Warnings: Festivities!

Date your threads as you will, and feel free to use this as a Valentine's exploration as well for those more inclined to appreciate a holiday from home amidst the celebrations of a whole different sort of world!

I asked, and apparently it's because we're the generation of the future and all. Born away from the time of the separation that the festival's all about. It's pretty nice, right?

[Because Hilbert certainly is enjoying his sweets. He pops one into his mouth and shrugs.]

[ Well, if other people are eating them, they're probably okay. Hesitantly, she picks out one of the more normal looking pieces and tosses it into her mouth. ]

Isn't it a little weird, though? We're not from here. [ She takes a second to actually think about it. ] But... I guess they wouldn't know that.

[He shrugs again.]

Yeah... We can take it as their gratitude for fighting against the UN too, I guess, if that makes it any more sensible. I think candies are a great reward.

That's not a bad way to look at it. And they're just giving it out, so...

[ She's not deceiving anybody. Moral crisis resolved, she dives back into the bag with greater energy, pulling out a lollipop. ]

You know, this is the first time I've seen everyone so happy since I got here. Even if I don't know the holiday, it's still pretty great.

[He's glad to help!]

It must be a really big thing for them, after all. Becoming their own state. There's a pretty big holiday back in my world too that everyone gets really excited over, but it must definitely be more exciting for them! Considering they're still fighting against the thing they're separated from.

[Kind of like they're celebrating another year against their enemy. He wonders how the United Earth feels about this.]

It's pretty rough. I can't imagine living like this for my whole life.

[ They'd been so lucky, back home. The fact she could sit around thinking about her wish for so long was proof enough of that. ]

What was your holiday like? I know Valentine's Day is soon, but that's not really a festival kinda thing.
idealord: (22 really try)

It's a big, explosive event that can be seen all over Unova. The sky's not dark at night because of all the fireworks and there's color everywhere. People hang out together, eating and drinking and having fun, and even though it happened centuries ago there's still a feeling of pride and joy, hope for the future, that our region will remain the same. There was this huge war a long time ago and two brothers unified the region in peace. But they started to fight, too, and Unova was set aflame. That ended a while after, but their sons started fighting again, and it ended the same way the first blood war did.

[Unovan history lesson. The basics, anyway.]

So it's pretty much a holiday that celebrates the renewal of the land, that no matter what happens in it it'll always return to the same state it had been before.

That's a pretty colorful history.

[ If she'd payed attention in class, she might have other stories to compare it to. As things stand — it's about the most exciting history lesson she's heard. ]

But... it's good that you celebrate it. Any excuse for a party, right? [ Sayaka who gave you permission to comment on anything. ]

[Oh no, her comment is appreciated.]

Pretty much. We love big things back home! And parties are especially welcome. What about you? Was your place big on anything like this?
