Characters: Zelos/Kaneis and you!
Summary: Evening/Night shift at the clinic. All welcomed, whether they be checking out the clinic, working at the clinic or that unfortunate dude who put their weapon in a very wrong spot.
Warnings: PG-13 for language and possible gore since hey IT IS A CLINIC.

[No matter how strange Zelos's life get, he can always count on his clinic shifts being one of two things: incredibly boring or incredibly strange. There was no middle ground.]

[Any night that you come in, you'll probably find Zelos sitting at the reception desk, with his feet on top if none of his bosses are around. If he's not attending to any patients or talking to staff, he seems to be reading- looks like the flavor of this month for literature is fantasy. And sometimes, he even seems to be talking to the book]

Oh come on Buttercup my beautiful flower, there's no way he'll actually release him. Jeez...

[And so on. Rest assured guys, this is a professional medic here. You can tell by the lab coat. ]

[ How does a person sound like they lost a limb? Like what would that sound even be? Endless screaming?

And wow, this guy isn't even planning on fully putting the book down? Jude's not entirely sure what he thinks about that, but he's sure he'd be given hell for something like that when on clinic duty. He's still managing a smile here. ]

This is the Transport clinic, right?

[Pretty much! And going "oh god oh god my arm" or sounding like they are hopping on one foot]

And what he doesn't want to go digging for a bookmark for you Jude. Not unless he needs to sew something back on]

That's right. Is there something we can help you with- you don't seem you're injured...

[ Okay, the point has been made. There is a sound of losing a limb.

And wow! Come on, he might not be an attractive woman, but he's at least worth a bookmark :( OUCH, BUDDY.

He shakes his head and holds a hand up. ]

I'm not, but I wasn't sure exactly how to go about offering to help out here.

[ Hesitating for a minute. ]

Is there anyone I should talk to specifically about this? I've only worked at the clinic connected to my school before, so I've never actually done anything like this before.

[And he looks moderately surprised. This kid seemed so...young. Did they hire kids?]

You wanna help out? Like...treat people or just clean bedpans?

[ That would probably be because the kid was really young, but hey Zelos had a half-pint genius running around with him (before everyone turned around and killed him), so young and brilliant kids shouldn't be surprising to him!

He hesitates again. ]

I'd rather help treat people, but some things came up before I could graduate med school. I've got the knowledge base to treat patients, and while it wasn't technically allowed by the school I've been left on clinic duty by myself before, but... I'm not licensed.

[wilder]

[Yeah but that kid wouldn't heal people so much as just...burn them to death]

I see. [That explained the age some] Well, I'm actually a mercenary and not an official doctor- so you can say we aren't too picky about official licenses. Don't have the luxury to be.

Still, to work here you got to get through an interview with our leader- Mr. Bloodspeaker. I could get you paperwork though.

[ Details...

Jude raises an eyebrow at that name, but opts not to make a comment on it. That's still one hell of a name for the owner of a clinic. ]

If you don't mind. I'll fill it out here and leave it with you.

[Yeah it's a real shame he didn't stick with Bloodsparkle. But he shrugs at the lack of comment before reaching into the desk and pulling out a clipboard with a form on it. There's also more question on the IC one I'm sure. He holds it out to Jude]

[ He's just trying to be polite here! Plus if he wants an interview and a job here, it might be better to not insult the owner's name. He takes the clipboard from Zelos and bows his head a little. ]

[ And he'll slide down a little on the countertop in case any actual patients come in and need to speak with the receptionist while he starts to fill things out. And if Zelos thought he could go back to reading while Jude is filling out these questions? Haha, think again, this kid is going to ask idle questions. ]

So... you're a mercenary?

[BUT BUT BUTTERCUP AND WESTLY'S LOVE HE MUST KNOW ABOUT IT]

That's right. When there's jobs to be had, anyway.

[ TOUGH BREAK. Jude's quiet for a minute while he reads over something before going back to scribbling things down. ]

Does that mean there's not a lot of jobs available for that kind of work here?

[wilder]

Not really. I mean, sure there's missions through the Initiative, but everyone gets paid the same flat rate for those.

But 'sides that? No monsters to fight, no people to escort- I'm lucky that I know healing artes or my skill set would be completely useless.

[cradlerobbed]

[ A small, vaguely amused smile. That's the first time he's heard people complaining about not having to fight monsters. ]

That's a good thing though, right? With everything else this world is struggling with I'm sure the people are glad they don't have to worry about monster attacks, though...

[ Scribbling a signature really quickly and looking up from the forms. ]

When you say no monsters to fight do you mean none in the city, or none at all?

[wilder]

I guess that's one way to look at it. Still, I'd take monsters over UE troops- they can't do anything like drop bombs.

And I mean none at all. I hear there's some strange looking animals in the Outlands, but they're just animals who've been influenced by the pollution in this place.

[cradlerobbed]

[ That's almost hard to imagine... a world without monsters. Then again, it's not like he'd been to any other worlds before this one, so any differences between worlds would probably be strange to him.

What's even stranger though? The first comment about the UE troops ]

... Bombs?

Yeah, giant explosives. Sometimes the UE likes to remind us who owns this world- and they don't have qualms with getting people hurt.

Don't think you'll get off easy by being a medic. The bastards were sick enough to bomb a hospital the last time they were here.

[cradlerobbed]

[ The pen stops moving completely as he turns to stare at Zelos now. He hadn't heard about any of this... ]

What happened to the patients inside the hospital?

We tried to evacuate as many as we could, but we were dealing with an epidemic at that point so we didn't have many resources...so there were a lot of casualties.

[cradlerobbed]

[ And he's putting everything down for a minute and staring at the page in front of him, even if he's not really focusing on it. ]

Even if they're in war with the people of Exsilium, it's not like most of the patients would be in any condition to rise up and fight against them. What possible reason could they have for targeting a hospital of all places?

[wilder]

Well, in my professional opinion?

Because they're dicks.

[cradlerobbed]

It goes beyond that when you're talking about people who are willing to slaughter civilians like that.

[ He shouldn't be surprised considering all the things he was told by the Initiative, but that doesn't make it easier to swallow. To make matters worse here, things may be hitting a little close to home for him right now.

He picks the pen back up and taps it on the page a couple times before jotting down a signature and handing the forms back to Zelos. ]

Yeah, but I'm on the clock. I could get into trouble if I used more colorful language than that to a kid!

[Nope, it only gets worse if you find out who made the virus too! And he'll take the forms ]

Thanks. Mr. Bloodspeaker works during the day, so you should be able to catch him then. I'll leave a note mentioning you.

[ PERHAPS best to leave that out for now. Jude already looks angry enough.

He sighs at the comment, but won't correct Zelos there. He's pretty used to being called a kid at this point. He still technically is too even if he doesn't really think of himself along those lines. ]

I'm not really sure the word you used would be considered appropriate by most people either.

[ A pause as he extends his hand over the desk towards Zeleis... Kanos. ]

I'm Jude, by the way. Jude Mathis.

[ Yeah, bro, it says so on the forms. He could figure that out in like two seconds for himself. ]

[It's okay he can tell him...LATAH. Along with piles of soul crushing things!]

[And jeez, talk about a calm acceptance of being called a kid. That's no fun. Oh well.]

It's human anatomy, we're in a clinic- it's appropriate.

[Also he does what he waaaants. He looks at that handshake bemused before reaching over and shaking his hand. And hey who knows! Maybe he would've thought it was pronounced Judy if he only read it]

[ Oh boy! Soul crushing things! Jude loves soul crushing things! Except for the part where he doesn't... at all.

Zelos is soon going to learn that Jude can suck the fun out of most forms of teasing.

Also please don't call him Judy. He makes a small scoffing sound at the "human anatomy" excuse before getting that handshake he wanted. c: ]
