Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory for the show of the year. Initial briefings are very brief this time around, and that Greeter just won't stop crying.
Warnings: new confused people and old sad people??

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, with eyes red as if she'd just finished crying. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given. There, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced — although it won't have Network access for another 8 hours. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room. The only lighting comes from dull red emergency lights, and the scenes of a dreary, rainy city from various cameras up on the screens; the largest of the screens opens up to a view of Earth from a good distance away -- this one isn't a screen at all, you might realize, but a window. As you watch, all screens in the room fill with light, impossibly bright. It consumes the buildings, the people, everything. There is no sound played, perhaps mercifully, only that white light -- and then nothing.

Through the large window, there's a pinprick of light over one of the landmasses on the blue planet. It grows to a tiny blossom and then dies away, but a cloud begins to mushroom outward in the same spot. It pushes the natural clouds out of the way, claiming that small portion of the world and wrapping it in a uniform gray.

Strings of numbers begin to fill the blanked out screens as the base's AI begins collecting data and calculations, but the show seems to be over. You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, with front row seats to the grave of Exsilium.

[Rosette's reaction is similarly silent as the scene searing across the screen. Her legs lose their strength and she sinks to ground, shaking with a terrible typhoon of anger and grief.]

[Rosette has pushed through all of those emotions in the only way she really knows how... an absolute focus on what needs to be done NEXT. As the new people start to filter in, she's one of those with a smile.]

[Chrono doesn't lose his footing; in fact, his knees are locked and his feet are rooted to the ground in such a way that he isn't sure he'll ever be able to move from this spot again. He can fathom mass murder, of course. But there's something about this that's almost too horrific to fully comprehend.

The voices around them fade to a dull, pointless buzz in his ears, but the hand that falls to Rosette's shoulder is an anchor for them both. Warm and, somehow, not shaking.]

A) [So, the least she can do is watch the final moments, huh? But like this, from the observatory window, it looks so strange and surreal. Maybe she picked this spot so she wouldn't have a chance at seeing anything familiar being destroyed but seeing it like this...

The light almost looked pretty until the gray clouded it over. Kido stays watching that spot for a long time, hands in her hoodie pockets. She didn't like a lot of them. But she hopes they were in ignorance until the end. That kind of loss of life is beyond her, though.

Muttering to herself.] So... they really trust in us to be able to fix something like that?


B) [After she shakes herself out of that, Kido moves around, through the observatory, the vr rooms, the cafeteria, just looking for any new faces. This has got to be the worst welcome and they need someone to explain things.

If you're new, she'll get your attention somehow.]

Oi, asking how are you doing is stupid but can I help you out?


C) [FOOD. a.k.a. hours after the arrival, she's finally looking over what they've got and-

Yeah this won't do at all. Kido feels depressed just looking through all the rations. And they're rations, she knows that. There's no way they can make anything good with this.

Kido winds up sitting outside a pantry eating a granola bar with her earbuds in, looking miserable.]

...I'm going shopping.

[She says this to no one in particular. She just knows it must be done.]

[Moon or earth, Jack has a routine when the new arrivals come. He lights up a cigarette, sits in the back, folds his arms, and watches people come in. He doubts it'll be anyone he knows-- but just in case, he keeps watch. And so what if this time is different? So what if his home planet-- a foreign place, yes, but a place where he once had friends and family-- is being destroyed? He's not going to linger on it. It's pointless.

When the bomb goes off, he watches it-- just for a moment, and then with a scowl he glances away. No use in being sentimental and soppy, after all.]

( Donny looks worse for wear, the way he almost always does, but there's all the little ways that indicate how much worse this is, even if there's some part of him that feels burned away. He holds himself a little differently - taller, maybe, but his shoulders are still a little slouched.

He's here for the same reason as Jack. Or, he meant to be. Watching the bomb fall on Exsilium wasn't a question, it had to be done, he had to do it, to remind himself, to fix it in his head as the time they failed and all the things they'd have to work to fix. Max had left, and he's set to follow her and forget about keeping an eye out for a little while, but he spotted Jack. )

[There's a small puppy watching the screens in silence. His face doesn't seem to read any sort of upset. In all honesty, Ren isn't exactly upset but... Well, he isn't really sure what he's trying to emote right now. He'll need to think on it further later, but for now he has a job he agreed to help to, so it's not long before he's moving through the crowd, stopping often when he sees people that seem lost or new. When he speaks, the voice is deep and mechanical in nature. It's entirely possible to hear the voice before ever seeing him, considering his size.]

[Kano's been walking around, fiddling with his tablet but frowning when he realizes that the network's down. There's a ton of new faces around here and, normally, he'd be up and about, greeting them. But the timing of this new batch is horrible--he's too tired to actively put on his usual show for them.

When he realizes that someone's speaking to him, he looks up and around. When he can't see anyone, he slowly lets his gaze drop on the dog below.]

[Jesse remains standing at the window long after the bomb has gone off, staring at the Earth. His eyes are puffy and red. He was crying for a long time and not that long ago, but he's since stopped and settled into a kind of catatonia. His face is frozen in despondence, and upon close inspection it's apparent that he's trembling subtly. He can't cry anymore, but he wants to. There's nothing else to do.]

[Tempest had avoided watching the bomb drop. It wasn't that she couldn't watch that many people die, it was more that she didn't want to. She was a coward and cared too much, and in a strange way it had scared her. She would've cried, and mourned, and even if, logically, she knew they would be brought back, she still felt guilt. Because here she was, up here and alive, and they weren't. It wasn't fair.

When she comes across Jesse, she's a bit startled to see him so upset. It almost - almost - makes her give in to her own held back emotions, but she manages to keep it together. So she gently touches his elbow as she steps up next to him, and tries to focus on that instead of herself]

[Satella's only just arrived, and is still processing the unstable world she's been dragged into. She's found Chrono, and thanks to him she understands a little more of the situation, and why the staff here seemed so upset. That sort of weaponry is the stuff of science fiction and not reality in her world, still--at least, not to her knowledge, not for a decade or two--but she thinks she's gotten the gist of it now.

She's not sure what to think, or if she should be upset, or angry, or just force herself to not let it call to mind the image of seeing her family home in flames. It certainly sells her on fighting with them in their war--although the cynical side of her wonders if that was the entire point of showing them that...event in the first place. It's a hell of a way to ensure loyalty.

Regardless, Satella decides that for the moment, she's going to cope the way she knows how to--by going into "business mode." And so she's wandering the base, stopping to talk to newcomers and the more established alike--anyone who seems they might be willing to talk. She'll gather information, decide for herself who among the people here are reliable and trustworthy, and from there decide how she should feel and what she should do next. It might be cold, but it's useful. She's never personally felt that sitting and mourning is productive. Mourning is for when the work is done.]

Great. Just what he always wanted; a fucking vacation to the moon. As outlandish as it all sounded at first, it was really hard to deny what was in front of him - for the moment, anyway. But there were other things to worry about, other things to look into to - he was already making a mental checklist of shit that had to get done before he gave himself the time to sit down and process all this crazy bullshit.

First on the list? Get a lay of the land. He checks his pocket - and the gun, a familiar weight at his side - and heads into the group of people to start his adventure into . . . well, this]

[It's been a very long week.

Connor stands among the crowd of new and old Transports gathered around the screens. His white robes are now more black and brown and red than they are white. Fresh blood patters on the floor under the tomahawk he still clutches in one hand.

If he looks like the Transporter just hauled him out of a battle with soldiers in United Earth's territory, where he spent the past few days desperately trying to keep a handful of surviving Exiles alive, that's probably because it did.

As he watches, light blooms across the screens and swallows up all he's known for the better part of a year. He turns away as that terrible nothingness takes the place of familiar views and the people who did not run.

They are all dead now. He has failed and they are all dead.

For a man with a new and rather pronounced limp, he beats one hasty retreat from the Observatory.

He's done.]

[There’s a distinctly familiar, hollow sound as his boots hit the transport pad - the usual spinning disorientation, the nausea directly following the displacement. What isn’t usual, isn’t expected, is the press of bodies crowding the pad alongside him. Though what about this most recent mission had been usual? He and Chloe had been scheduled for a few quick days in Egypt - off to burn a few scrolls for the sake of the Initiative and lifts a few key artifacts for a little personal gain on the side (the latter of which were safely stowed in the satchel at Charlie’s hip) - but then they’d been left there to rot for days on end and--

And now here they are, being shuffled like so many cattle through a narrow, unfamiliar corridor. Charlie reaches out for Chloe automatically, nominally to keep from being separated from her in the press - really because there’s something strange and disorienting and frightening about the angle of the walls. He catches his fingers in the arm of her jacket.]

Shit. [There’s the tug of his fingers as they’re filed in, as her slightness versus his bulk means she has less trouble keeping a quicker pace amongst the crowd, straining his grip from time to time when the shuffle pulls her along well before him. As they’re shunted into a room with screens and a massive window, Charlie knocks elbows with a few of the other Transports.]

Blimey, that’s Earth.

[And then that small pinprick of light goes hot, mushrooming out and upward. There’s something undecipherable about it: an image that doesn’t make any sense except in the barest senses. She doesn't like it. And like bloody hell is she planning on pretending otherwise, given the tension in her fingertips-- her jaw. Everything she says hissed through gritted teeth.]

Don’t remember signing up for this one, Charlie.

[He’s not stupid. He can put two and two together. Something’s gone wrong and now they’re in a corridor. A very cramped corridor potentially with only space beyond it. Darkness and nothing to breathe and-- His fingers may be digging into Chloe’s arm but that doesn’t stop him from pawing at the person in front of him as he starts to go light headed.]

[She's shaken, no doubt about it. Of all the many horrors Seras has seen in her life a nuclear blast is a new one, even what Millenium did to London was not so completely devastating as this.

There's guilt and a lot of anger boiling away inside of her, that the Initiative abandoned so many of their own because of limited resources and yet they still bring in Transports. It is - and pardon her French -- fucked up in the extreme.

Jaw tightening Seras turns her back the screens, her arms folded under her chest, gloved fingers digging into her arms as she begins to walk out of the room.

She wishes she could talk to Pip or Integra right now.]

[He passes her on her way out of the room and shakes his head. Might as well make conversation, even if it's with a stranger, and she definitely looks upset.]

Bit of a gloomy scene, isn't it.

[You might hear the sound of a child sobbing if you pass this way, fellow transports. The crying comes from a young girl, maybe 4 or 5, dark skinned and too old to belong to the pale blond teenager she's clinging to anyway. She has chubby baby cheeks and enormous eyes, and tears and snot are running down her tiny face. She's clinging tightly to someone around a decade older than she is, but a little too young to be her father.

The teenager isn't crying. He's a skinny kid, but he looks like he might be tallish if he stood up. He doesn't stand up, though. He hardly even blinks. He's holding the little girl gently, but staring past her at the window view, where the bomb went off a few hours ago. Just...staring. And he's been that way for a good long while now. He's probably not totally okay.]

There were probably many reasons to be thankful -- thankful she had somehow managed to escape that school of horrors alive, despite everything? As lucky as she's somehow been, she is still not happy. What's the use of somehow being rescued from a terrible place like Hope's Peak, only to be trapped somewhere new? What's the point, when she can't be free to live her own life? Who even cares, now that the Earth is completely ruined?

Fortunately for the Queen of the Liars, she manages to keep the anger and discontent off her face, a bored expression masking her true thoughts. Of course she can learn to be happy here! All she has to do is adjust, just like last time.

And hey, if she's stuck here, she may as well explore and see what there is to offer, right? So she'll be wandering around the moon base, looking bored out of her mind, occasionally letting out a politely disinterested noise at a fellow Traveler. What? That outfit you're wearing is positively awful. ]

[Kanaya had only gotten herself a brief look at the explosion. She didn't need a front row seat. Her skills could be better put to work actually helping the new transports. Lurking in a public area, she waited for such individuals to cross her path. Eventually one girl caught her eye who seemed both similar in age and collected enough to make good use of information even this soon after the shock of arrival.]

If you're new here, which I'm assuming you are, I have to tell you that the current state of resources is very disappointing.

[Midst all the hustle and bustle of new arrivals trying to figure out where they are and seasoned transports trying to cope with what's going on is a little jackalope girl curled up against one of the walls. Her face is pressed against her knees, hidden, but from her shivering shoulders and periodic deep breaths, she's very obviously crying.]

[Well, he didn't know what she was. A...rabbit...thing? He's seen plenty of strange things in Night Vale, and he was finding it easier to just accept some things.

She was crying. She must have seen the blast, he guessed.

He wasn't the best with this, but, uhh, she seemed to be in distress.]

A) [Well, it was a little much to take in all at once. He watched the explosion with a mixture of awe and terror (mostly terror) as he looked out at the small planet and the vastness of space (mostly void, partially stars).

He frowned, some sort of sinking feeling. How were they going to fix that? Would he be stuck on the moon forever?

At least he wore comfortable sneakers.

He turned and looked at whoever was standing next to him.]

...was that what I think it was?

B) [Later, he's wandering around, and finds his way to the cafeteria. He's taking small comfort in as many starchy foods as he can get his hands on- right now, he's eating a sandwich. With real bread! Actual, honest-to-goodness bread.

He takes a drink of water (which tastes a little...stale. Can water go stale?) and glances up at the person sitting down near him. He nods just once in greeting, silent.]

[Terror would be a natural reaction for most people. Hell, even Hitsugaya understood that. Not that he felt any of it, really -- he had a wide-range destructive ability himself. But his jaw was firmly set as he watched Exsilium go up in smoke. He might have felt little enough attachment to the place, but it at least deserved the respect of them acknowledging its end.

[When the question came up -- must be from a new Transport, since he was unaware of what was transpiring -- he just answered dryly.] If you're thinking a nuclear explosion, then yes.

[ In his short superhero career Huell's already seen plenty of weird stuff, but this definitely takes the cake. They're on the moon and he's just watched what's supposedly Britain get wiped off the map by a nuclear bomb. Some part of him is convinced that this must be some sort of trick, maybe an elaborate illusion by a someone with Hallucikinesis or something of the sort. It would certainly make more sense than whatever the hell is going on here, but the display from before at least stops him from making a racket he would otherwise be more inclined to make.

So when he finally pushes himself away from the window, it's with a subdued kind of wariness that he slips on the cuff he's chosen as 'weapon' and moves to start exploring around. He probably stands out a bit in his uniform, but that doesn't stop him from making himself stand out even more by occasionally zipping from one place to another. While complaining. ]

They better have enough food here, this is bloody insane.

[This young man's in a uniform as well, albeit a far less flashy one. The straps are interesting, though - it's not like he'll be using his maneuver gear to get around in this enclosed space, but somehow he can't bear to change things up.]

There's food enough for a time, but we'll have to go on missions to re-supply, or we'll run out quickly.

[When she'd first returned, to be greeted by the cold and empty expanse of stars in the window, she almost panics, braces herself against a nearby wall and breathes. Waits for the room to stop spinning.

It takes a while, but she manages to move again.

The air is sterile, and the lights are very dim. She fumbles with something in her hands, and stares blankly at the holographic surface of a device she recognizes. Now she knows where she is. She would be angry about it, if she thought she had anywhere left to go.

But she knows she doesn't, in some way she doesn't fully understand but accepts. That door had been wrenched open, with her bare and bloody hands, and so there was nothing left in that old world for her. Even if she had wanted to go back, she couldn't. That was that.

The sword she'd been given the first time she'd arrived in Exsilium was back with her, and she'd almost recoiled from it, the memory of it (broken, being slammed against that door until it shattered into pieces. her heart, used and discarded. it had never mattered at all) clashing hard against the reality of seeing it whole again. She didn't want to touch it —

(— she remembers the blade in her back, beneath her ribcage. And worse than that, when the swords had come. There had been nothing but the waiting then, hanging off the edge of a road that ended in a void. the swords had rained down —)

— but there was nothing to be done. She couldn't leave it either, but she didn't want to be near it. Would discard it at the soonest opportunity. What good did she have of a sword? She wasn't a prince, had never been. It had never been something she could do. She'd proven that, hadn't she? With Anthy...

She tries not to think about it, not right now.

She watches the city die instead, the bright white light overtaking everything, and can't bring herself to feel much of anything at all. For the first time, she is aware of her helplessness. She would not have been able to change this even if she'd been here, she thinks. She had never been able to change anything at all.

That is harder to swallow.]

[She doesn't know where her room is, and doesn't care, so she sleeps with her back turned from the wide windows. Against the wall. The beautiful, ornate sword has been pushed as far away as she can manage without losing it. There's something else too — her duelist outfit is torn, tattered in places. There are the remains of a white rose pinned to her chest, the petals faded and wilting.

Her sleep is restless, and her features are tight and drawn even while resting. Up close, one can see a faint crisscrossing of scratches along her hands and If disturbed, she will jolt awake in a sudden, bleary panic. She'd been dreaming, and it had not been pleasant.

It could be passed off as anxiety about the city bombing, but even now, she isn't much of a liar.]

[Asuka had been distracted during the destruction of the City; other people had grabbed her attention and the shifting crowd had stopped her from spotting the tell-tale shock of pink hair. It's only afterward, after everyone has started to filter out that she finally spots her friend through the shifting crowd and for reasons she can't quite describe, her heart jumps into her throat.

She's here. She didn't leave. Nanami had been wrong (she was going to wave that in her face the next time they talked). Asuka shoulders her way through the crowd, throwing an elbow into someone's rib and then squeezing through a gap. It's only when she gets closer that she can see how worn-down Utena looks and the tears and gaps in her clothing, as if someone's taken a pair of scissors to them (or perhaps a sword). There's something far too familiar in the distant, dull gaze that Utena's turned to the viewscreens and it almost makes Asuka recoil.

It reminds her too much of herself months back.

But it's Utena. She understands (sort of).]

Hey! Utena!

[With her usual tact, she reaches out to grab her by the shoulder.]

Where the Hell have you been?

[She hasn't been worried. That'd be silly.]

Sokka | Open | The Observatory

Sokka wasn't exactly surprised to find himself back in Exsilium. Well. Surprised would probably be the best word, actually. He'd thought he was done with the place. Done with Asami and Bolin and engines and cars and all the rest, much as it pained him to admit that he missed them (though he didn't miss the awful weather). To be brought back, told that things were even worse? That hurt.

But when he enters the Observatory, that all goes out of his mind as he finds himself staring out in the vast, empty void of space at...at the Earth. He's wide-eyed, staring out at the void and the blue and green dot that hangs within it, not quite comprehending what it is he's seeing. Is that space? Is that what exists between worlds? Part of him wonders if his own planet is out there somewhere, twinkling like some distant star. He steps forward, ignoring the fact that he might bump into someone, ignoring the screens to continue his awed gaze out at the unblinking stars.

"...Whoa."

He doesn't bump into her, but she can't help but notice someone staring out into space looking like a fool. The fact that someone is far more disturbed and confused by all of this than her makes her feel a little better about the whole thing. It's impossible for her not to comment ...

"My ... you know, if you keep standing there with your jaw hanging out like that, it may fall off."

[ she has several reasons to be displeased, ranging from her unpleasant state of dress to the misplacement of herself and — more importantly — her friends. it isn't difficult to read the tenseness in her body, shoulders squared and arms crossed against bare midriff defensively as her lips twist into a tight, dismayed line. the ringing of the broken chain hanging from her collar as she walks certainly doesn't help her efforts to be conspicuous, purposefully leading herself into a corner to avoid the mingling of what appears to be individuals just as bemused as herself, mimicking their actions as she stares out into the vastness of space just beyond the window.

the sight she's met with is cringe-worthy, though she doesn't show much reaction, save for a twitch in her facial features. it's too reminiscent of her memories of alderaan being destroyed to sit well with her, to not have her chest tightening with something bitter, but she forces herself to draw a sharp breath and turn away. it's much easier and less emotionally compromising to focus her efforts on the device she'd been given, but the malfunctioning tablet doesn't ease any of her annoyance. ]

[ the tone is clearly one of exasperation, but she seizes that moment to place her tablet to the side, taking a quick moment to lean against the glass behind her and recompose herself. ]

[Now Luke knows what Obi-Wan meant. A hundred thousand voices crying out in terror and suddenly silenced, like a holorecorder being switched off. There's more to it than that, of course. There's an echo of it that lingers, horrifying and disturbing because he knows what it signifies. In fact, he's looking a bit pale, but he's trying to keep himself moving. Lingering on it won't help him or anyone else.

Then he catches sight of Leia through the crowd and he starts working his way over. He has no idea what she's wearing and this will probably be a bit awkward - he's wearing his fatigues, of course. A bit battered, but still serviceable. As soon as he thinks she's within earshot, he calls out over the crowd.]

Leia!

[He's not sure whether to be relieved that she's here or disturbed that she's been dragged into this. He comes to a stop just out of arm's reach, his grin a bit wan and drawn, but there all the same. It fades slightly as he finally gets a good look at her.]

[If she'd ever had a dream so fantastic as this, she would assume it to be the source of all this strangeness. To one moment be in Shazahd, amidst the sound and fury of that great city, and then suddenly to be here stumbling and graceless amidst the bright lights and flashing sounds?

She watches through the viewscreen, uncomprehending. She knows only that it is destruction, but not its course or cause. The scope of it is completely surreal and she can only watch, fingers pressed close against one of those whited-out screens. She turns to whoever's closest and asks, what is this? but alas, no English. Her native language sounds a bit like Russian eloped with Swahili, oops. Someone should probably introduce her to the translation abilities of the tablets.]


b) VR room, later;

[She's escaped into this room and turned the gravity up by about twenty percent so it will better resemble her homeland. And now she's sitting with her knees drawn up, fussing over her tablet. The technology is alien to her, and there's a slight furrow between her brow as she reads. If anyone enters, she'll scramble to her feet and shove the tablet at them while pointing to one of the icons, unsure of what it means or does.]


c) cafeteria;

[She's having a staring contest with a jar of canned food. No, really. She's perched on a bench, attention focused at what looks like beets in mild incredulity. Drying food? Totally okay. Canning it is at least nine different types of unnatural. After a moment, she picks it up and tries to undo the lid, but due to the fact she's from a higher-grav environment than this and hasn't yet mastered the art of controlling her strength, the jar shatters and she scrambles inelegantly to try and clean it up while still salvaging the food.]

[Mahdi was busy taking stock of the food supplies, minding his own business, when--]

Oh no, don't--!

[Aaaaaand it's too late. There's canned beets everywhere, by the looks of it.]

You really - you really can't eat that! Here, I'll help clean it up.

[Mahdi scrambles away, returning with a broom and dust pan, crouching to help sweep up the bits.]

A [Well, there's that. Raphael deduces pretty quickly what it is - the event itself isn't in the history books, but the method is after all - and decides to take the time afterwards sitting against a hallway wall with his dog Fondue in his lap and looking through the information the poor greeter pointed out to them. The observatory's pretty crowded.

He's a little visibly puzzled by some of it. Particularly the time travelling bit and more or less rewriting history. It's really a lot to take in.

... And it all ended with a big bang. The people here have it rough.]

B [Later on, Raphael and Fondue end up at the cafeteria to see what there is to eat.

Whiiine. Nothing the dog wants. He wants a juicy steak, or maybe some fondue...]

Let's just get some water instead, huh?

[Woeuf! But, of course, the sink he chooses isn't one that runs water at all, just one that moans and whines. It's possessed. And scares Fondue, who barks at it!!]

[ Lucy was almost always in the company of Plue since everyone evacuated to the moonbase - the celestial spirit did a lot to keep her cheerful when she wasn't with her friends.Passing through the cafeteria on her way to get something to eat herself, she paused curiously at the sight of Raphael and his dog, but she bursts out laughing at poor Fondue being startled by the sink. SHE'S SORRY RAPHAEL but that was really cute. ]

[To say Heath is a little confused would be putting it mildly. One second he was trying to deal with the Sinisterians killing the dancefloor instead of the partygoers, and the next he's in space. He's not quite sure how he's ended up in space, as he's pretty certain he hasn't pressed any suspicious buttons in the past five minutes, but in space he most certainly is.

He realises he probably should have paid more attention to the crying normie woman, but he lost interest somewhere around the point she started talking about the stuffy royal guys. But at least the movie they played was interesting. Explosions always made movies interesting, even if the sound was busted. Maybe it was one of those ART movies? That would explain the stuffy royal guys.

Still, he's pretty much done with this space thing. So he's following one of the purple robe chicks around]

Hey look, this whole...final frontier thing is cool and all but if you could get me on the next ship or rocket or whatever back to Massachusetts that would be - [off she goes, puffy eyed and sad] or you could just ignore me, okay.

Don't take it personally. [ Lucy offers, approaching from behind with Plue in her arms. ] Everyone's... taken a really hard emotional blow here, so they're not themselves. You're new, right?

[Philip listens intently to the greeter, up to a point. Once he is given enough details, he's able to make the rest of the connections himself. The most important parts are that the people around him seem hollow, grieving, and that they are on the moon, but are not usually there. The most important part to Philip is that the comforting tug of the connection between himself and his partner Shotaro is gone. Shotaro is not here.]

[He shuffles into the observatory with the crowd and looks at the images of Earth. Though it's from space, the bloom of the nuclear cloud is unmistakable to him. Were he on the Earth, he could have felt the planet itself cry out. The echoes of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were still there in the memory of the Earth, the greatest events of man-made destruction it could recall.]

[He watches, stone-faced, unsure of the reaction he should be having. He knew that there could only be so much time before a bomb would go off again on his beloved Earth... but still. He doesn't realize a tear is falling until it has already crossed his cheek.]

Ah. I see.

[He murmurs softly, pressing his hand to his cheek and looking at the wetness. Would that Shotaro were here. This was not the way he wanted to see his Earth from afar. But the greeter had told him there was time travel. This could be reversed. He nods.]

Then we will turn it back.

[He talks to himself, barely cognizant of the crowds of people around him.]

[After the bombing is complete, Philip makes his way around the base, inspecting every nook and cranny. He couldn't gain full knowledge of the base through the library he had no access to. Perhaps the Moon had a memory as well, but he couldn't feel it beneath him. He knocks on doors, inspects the strangers he encounters quietly but thoroughly, and explores all the rooms he can gain access to.]

[He seems to be in his own little world, but he is being quite rude... If you want to interrupt him, feel free!]

[Rose hasn't had much occasion to explore the moon base quite thoroughly yet - she hadn't been in Exsilium long enough to become attached to any of it, but to be uprooted so suddenly a second time was more than a little frustrating. it's hardly the sort of actions that give her any more faith in the Initiative.

so she's taken a little time to gather her thoughts and bring her emotions under control before venturing out to poke and pry; her mind is completely focused on her knitting as she sits in her dorm room, yarn jerking lightly as she moves with practiced ease.

when the door opens she initially pays it no mind, assuming it's one of her roommates coming and going again. it's only when the figure lingers that she looks up, eyebrow quirking in confusion at the unfamiliar face. her knitting slows but does not stop as she speaks, tone somewhere between saccharine politeness and bemusement]

Can I help you? I was under the impression that our move here signaled the end of unwanted home invasions.

[Charlie watches the screens a moment more, then squeezes her football and makes her way out of the observatory, pocketing her tablet as she does so. There's too many people there and there's too much to think through -- she needs a quiet place and a moment to herself. As soon as she's in the clear, she drops her ball and dribbles it down the hallway slowly.

She ducks into the first room she finds interesting (a VR room) and it's quiet enough (bare enough) that she can just settle into the floor and clear her mind.

The young detective just needs some time, okay.]

[Though they're just exploring around, popping their heads into rooms, Fondue actually catches wind of a familiar scent and woeufs!

What, who's is it? [Charlie's!

And lo and behold there she is. Hopefully she's had enough time to clear her head, though Raphael is actually staring at her trying to decide if he wants to speak. Finally, he kneels down and takes off Fondue's scarf.

Sorry, buddy, but you're too recognizable like that. Let's peek in again.]

[Even after the show's over, after the planet is well and truly gone, Momo can't bring herself to look away, can't even bring herself to move. It's gone, it's gone, it's really gone and after they'd all been trying so hard...]

But... [she begins softly, almost to herself.] But we're gonna fix it, right? We... We can't just let it stay like this! W-we're gonna fix it...

[She recovers her composure soon enough though, and leaves the observatory behind. It takes only a little fiddling with her tablet to convince her that's not gonna work for the moment, so she puts it away for the moment, setting her attention back on the people around her.

Her hood up as usual, it doesn't take long until she's smiling again, on the lookout for anyone who might look lost or confused.

After all, things getting difficult doesn't mean the newcomers don't deserve a warm welcome. Right?]
