[Asuka pokes at the dust with her own stick. She's not incredibly fond of people at the moment.]

Where would I even get one? It's not like I can afford to buy one, even if I wanted to ride it!

[Hilbert's not giving up.]

Maybe if we ask, they'll let you? There's not a lot of men who'd turn down a request from a pretty young lady.

[redheadcarrier]

[Asuka flushes and for a moment she looks rather flustered.]

I'm not going to go crawling to them just so I can ride some kind of stupid animal!

Then allow me to do the honors, miss.

[He puts his stick down, standing up and walking off without another word. If she's there when he gets back, he'll have wrangled something for her to ride with the promise of walking the animal around for an hour or so!




It just won't be a horse. It's a mule. Close enough.]

You're kidding, right?

[Asuka just kind of boggles at him.]

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, miss!

[It isn't even a horse.]

Anyway, he's sturdy enough and we've got him for the next hour. The owner wants us to at least walk him around that long.

I don't even know you! And I don't want to ride that thing!

[Arms akimbo, Asuka stares at Hilbert like he's grown a second head.]

[Ah, right, he'd been so excited to get her something to ride he forgot to properly introduce himself! Hilbert sticks out his free hand, the other clutching the mule's reins, and smiles.

Honestly, whatever annoyance she has with him is sliding off like water on a duck.]

Sorry, I'm still pretty excited about being in the time period I've only seen movies. My name's Hilbert.

[Stop being so oblivious to her irritation, dammit!]

I don't care! I just want to get out of here!

[Even if the weather is better. She doesn't take his hand, either.]

[He's not oblivious - he's outright ignoring it! Hilbert drops his hand once it becomes apparent she's not going to give him a shake - or her name - and leans against the docile beast grinning.]

Want to see how far out we can go?

[Into the wilderness. On a mule. Just the two of them.]

Why would I want to do that?

[Sorry, Hilbert. Asuka is being a bit of a brat.]

[Even the most patient of people would start to wear at some point, but Hilbert's still clinging to a small hope.]

To get out of town for a little while? Since there's no chance of us leaving until the election's done with.

[Asuka fumes silently for a moment, glaring at Hilbert with the intensity of a thousand suns. Then she finally loosk away with a grumpy-sounding 'hmmph'.]

I guess it's better than sitting around here all day....

[But she refuses to enjoy herself. So there.]

[Aw yeah. He'll motion her to follow him, though he wouldn't be against her leading. Especially since he's got to keep an eye on the mule here.]

So, what's your name? I gave you mine.

[redheadcarrier]

[Asuka pointedly doesn't get on the mule. At least for now.]

I'm Asuka.

[The reply is grudging. Very grudging.]

It's nice to meet you, Asuka! Since you're pretty bored of this place, I'm guessing you're used to a lot more action?
