[Well, now Hilbert's just kind of glum. He nods mournfully at the facts, and sighs.]

Yeah, you're right... I guess we could just smack its rear and send it at him, in that case. [Hold up.] Wait, smoke you out? You two stole the horse?!

[Even a monkey can figure out how to hit the nail on the head!]

[Now Hilbert gets a funny look.]

I thought you— Why'd you figure we're hiding? I mean, it kinda just happened and we're giving it back, but...

[It wasn't obvious!?]

[Definitely not! Hilbert sees only the best in people and why would they ever steal a horse?!]

I just thought-- Now that you're telling me, it all makes sense...

[So so disappointed in Kougyoku. And whoever this guy is. Did he influence her? Hilbert studies Kazu.]

So, who're you? You didn't get her to help you with this, did you? [He will battle you if you did. Little does he know, it's the other way around.]

[It's okay, Kazu forgets why they stole the horse sometimes too.

He's starting to frown now, though less at what Hilbert's saying to him than Kougyoku's reaction. Do they know each other or something? Either way, he doesn't clarify whose idea it was 'cause when it comes down to it, they were in it together.]

Her friend. We're trying to get votes for Moony, the horse's supposed to help people listen. We'll give it back so you don't gotta compensate for anything.

[Aw but working on a ranch together until they've got to get back would be the perfect bonding agent.]

Because a horse would make you look richer, right? [It's a good idea. Really. He rubs his cheek, looking from the two to the horse. At least it seems well-behaved.]

... Oh well. That's just how it is. [He shrugs. But don't think you're off the hook, Kazu!] And it's not a matter of wanting to compensate, but most people don't take that kindly to thieves. I'm pretty sure they hung them.

That was the plan, yeah! Just wasn't expecting it to involve hanging.

[TALK ABOUT THINGS GONE AWRY, which is why Kazu is now even less inclined to go apologising.]

It's what's right. And if we're earnest, I'm sure it'll be fine. We're two young men who've got a little sister [he gestures to Kougyoku with his hand] to take care of.

[Quirks an eyebrow 'cause he's pretty sure she's older, but doesn't comment on it.]

I dunno how well saying sorry's gonna go over if he's already put money on our heads, man.

It's like confessing to your crimes in court: you get off with a lighter sentence. Hopefully. I'm sure it'll be fine.

[Upmost faith in humanity.]

[Looking between Hilbert and Kougyoku, 'cause really.]

Orrrr we could just sneak the horse back and nobody's got to get down at all.

[Sorry, Heroes don't do that. And neither do Princesses.]

We're gonna be gone in days, he won't even miss us! You think he'd really care if he got his horse back?

What if it causes our guy to lose the election? A prize horse, suddenly missing during an important event?

[The funny look's back, though he does try to quell it.]

They'd think he's got nothing to do with it? And it's not like he's the only guy running, man. Gonna get him bad press if we actually own up though.

[The horse may have its flimsy disguise, but the townsfolk are going to know these are the people who've been campaigning for him!]

We don't have to tell him you two stole it, it'll be good press if we return it in that case. Unless he saw you.

[They're just honorable young people returning a horse they found. That'll be good press.]

[This train turned around fast. He looks between the pair of them, feeling like he just tumbled right off and probably looking it too.]

Wait, so we don't gotta compensate the guy?

[Whaaat. Not that he's complaining, mind you!]

[This Kazu guy is really funny. Still, going from "we HAVE to compensate, it's only right!" to "let's just tell him we found it" is a pretty nice slide.]

I wouldn't mind trying some ranch work myself, but you don't seem up for it ad I wouldn't ask Kooky to do it. And it's not exactly a lie either - you did find it. Just before he was looking for it.

Uh, no, we're gonna be telling him we found it and claiming credit for it. Pretty sure that's lying.

But this's making negative sense—

[That's when Kougyoku tells him to get the horse ready, so he'll give up and turn to her instead. There's quite a bit to be said here, though his misgivings can be summarily addressed with just:]

[You're making negative sense oh good orders.]

She looks sure, right? It'll be fine.

[Aaaand he'll say what he says to Kougyoku and go to get rope. Borrowing. Rope. Yeah.]
