It's not. [Anthy agrees, placing her hands behind her back.] Are you planning to participate?

No.

[ Rei folds her hands in front of her in a quiet, reserved motion. ]

I won't fight for them.

[bloomcycle]

Me neither.

[She glances back at the sky, knowing that will become less true as soon as Utena decides to fight for them. Probably already has. Letting the quiet pause after her simple reply stretch out, Anthy waits to see if Rei will say something else or choose to walk away.]

[ Rei glances sidelong at Anthy. She's reminded almost of herself in some small way. ]

There is no purpose here.

[bloomcycle]

[That could mean a number of different things. Anthy picks out the details on a cloud lets the silence go on for a few seconds longer.]

I'm sure that the Initiative has a purpose in their actions, though it might not be in our own best interests.

No.

[ She turns her gaze back towards Anthy. ]

Fighting for the Initiative is not my purpose.

What is your purpose?

[Anthy meets Rei's gaze and smiles, the quality of it just a shade unwholesome.]

To pilot Eva.

[ But Eva isn't here. So where does that leave her? She's experiencing a mil existential crisis at the moment, not that one could tell by looking at her. ]

There is no Eva here.

[bloomcycle]

You see yourself as having only one function in life.

[Not that Anthy has any clue what an Eva is, but she is acquainted with this line of thinking and delicately follows the trail of it. It used to be her own. It still is, in some ways.]

Are you feeling lost without it?

[ A half-answer. She almost smiles when she says the name, the expression not quite breaking free on her face. ]

So there is something else besides piloting Eva. [That name is familiar to her as well -- Asuka's message on the network, that's when she last heard it.] Or someone.
