VOLUNTEER MISSIONS TO THE UE

Date & Time: Sept 17th - Sept 19th
Location: Where ever the mission is set!
Characters: Anyone involved.
Summary: After the final wave of kidnappings on the 15th, the Initiative sends out a few teams to run hasty missions to weaken the Holding Compound, in preparation for the rescue. Info and team plotting here!
Warnings: Possible violence, let a mod know if it needs any warnings in particular.

The call for volunteers has gone out via the tablets, and a frazzled few Initiative workers lined up the first of those to show to send them immediately on their way.

Team #1 is instructed to reprogram the door codes. "It can be anything, it can be your Grandma's maiden name or your favorite candy, just — for God's sake, write it down somewhere and get it to us when you're done. We need to know the codes." They're teleported into a facility devoid of prisoners, but running at full research steam nonetheless. This team will also discover the power nulls and alarm triggers, and report their presence back in Exsilium. This mission should last no longer than 5 hours.

Team #2 is told to plant an Initiative-provided killswitch in the power grid, during the Compound's final days of construction. None of the workers should be killed. This mission should last no longer than 6 hours.

Team #3 is sent on a steelworking expedition, and must add phosphorus to a mixture of steel to make it brittle. Factory worker death is not recommended, but if it's unavoidable, will be found acceptable. This mission should last no longer than 4 hours.

Team #4 is sent to steal the finalized blueprints of the Holding Compound. Killing should be avoided. This mission should last no longer than 2 hours.

Team #5 must overheat a warehouse, warping the materials inside, and alter a shipping list. Worker death will be seen as an acceptable loss if necessary. This mission should last no longer than 4 hours.

Team #6 visits the Compound on the morning of the arrival of the scientists and soldiers, due to a miscalculation. The original goal was to arrive the night before, but there's no going back now. They must download copies of the sewage and air duct systems. This mission should last no longer than 6 hours.

Team #7 is responsible for literally building in a backdoor to the Compound; they will be visiting the construction site and night and adding false walls, secret doors, and covert hallways. This mission could take anywhere from a week, to two months, depending on skill and progress.

Need to radio back questions to an Initiative operator for specific instruction? Advice? General cursing? There's an operator standing by to take these calls, but use your tablets wisely. The drain on battery life through time is immense, and each group will only have enough juice for 3 conversations with the Initiative operator.

Good luck, and Godspeed.

[They split up before heading into the compound; the two designated hackers with Dick along to play defense, while Tess and Allison operated as back up, planning to keep watch of the surrounding hallways and ensure no one happens upon Steph and Ally while they work.

Steph, Ally and Dick haven't quite made it to the compound yet, taking a slow approach, though they're almost at the point where the power null kicks in.

That's going to be fun.]

[This isn't Ally's first time sneaking in somewhere, but it feels so much different - usually it's all skyscrapers and megacorp HQs, or at least industrial warehouse district. Going against the military? She feels waaaay out of her league, though she's loathe to show it. The rest of her team seems so calm and collected that she's doing her best to act like this is all totally normal to her. Even though there's not much of a signal out here and it's making her a little antsy.

Then they creep forward pass some invisible line and it's like someone threw a bag over her head - at least metaphorically, because she can still see. But she's hyperventilating and it's making her vision go fuzzy and even the faintest hum of background data in her head is gone, like someone just flipped a switch off and no matter how hard she concentrates she can't get it back on]

It was the beginning of yet another mission, but this one had a few more partners than the blonde was used to. He didn't know any of them personally either, but it was fortunate that there wasn't supposed to be any fighting. He was armed, but the guns he had were hidden in various places.

Looking at the three other people next to him he cocked a brow and gave a small smile. "So who knows how to mess with the power grid without getting electrocuted?"

He could speak for himself on that one! Jake was feeling a little disappointed that he wasn't going to get any action out of this particular outing. Well, that wasn't entirely true... It had been some time since they'd lost an entire world to the United Earth control and ever since getting a small taste of real war Jake wasn't jumping at the bit the way he had been before. Still he had a certain image of himself to keep cultivated.

Which really just meant he was bouncing up and down on spot with nervous energy as they waited to roll out.

"I think I could probably manage something if I'm allowed to take a whack at it." More reassuring words had never been spoken.

TEAM #3

[personal profile] followupquestion 2013-09-29 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Crouched in the shadows of one of the several steel plants surrounding the one she'd been briefed on, Renee decided she was just going to make her peace with the fact that when she signed up for a suicide mission into the past she'd really been asking to be assigned to break into the closest humans had come to creating a literal hell on earth. Given Gotham villains only loved abandoned warehouses more than factories when it came to setting up lairs, she'd spent more time in those ugly masses of metal and machinery than anyone not employed by them should have.

She was here now, however, and more importantly she had a job to do. Didn't matter this whole scheme sounded insane, or that she was doing it to save a bunch of people she'd never met on the orders of the people who'd kidnapped her into this war in the first place. Whoever the UAE really were, they'd taken to abusing and abducting anyone who disagreed with them, and while they may be the law in this time, Renee had learned the hard way that the law only had meaning when used to protect. When those in power used it as a shield to protect themselves while abusing the helpless, then doing what was smart or legal had to take a backseat to doing what was right.

A stray breeze brought a blast of hot air and the smell of smoke and burnt hair and liquid metal to sear Renee's lungs. Ditching her jacket and making sure her featureless mask was fixed tight to her face, she did a quick final check of her gear, including her share of the phosphorus, then looked back at the members of her team with her. They'd decided to fan out a bit and get the lay of the land, but the day shift had finally cleared out and the night crew was settling in, which meant it was time to go to work.

She'd had a lot of bad days in this world, time to finally return the favor to someone else who deserved it more.

Khisanth really prefers not to crouch, and certainly not in a place as dirty as this. So she simply leans, up against a wall with arms folded over her chest, and one hand fiddling with a strand of black hair. Gods, why had she agreed to this, again? A mission sounded like a good reprieve, but she'd been picturing something more exciting. Something that would involve using her true form to kill large amounts of humans, maybe.

Life just never seems to oblige when you most want it to.

She glances over at her faceless companion (still strange, though she's had time to get used to it) and quirks a brow.

"Are we going now?" We is used very loosely. She still has yet to decide whether she'll actually help with anything.

[He glances around nervously for perhaps the fifth time. He's got his gun in his hand, his fingers wrapped tight around the handle. They're alone for now, but god knows how long that will be.

They formed a plan before they even came here (they being mostly Lisbeth and Stanley, with the others inputting things as needed). Blueprints are theoretically easy to get, but they need to find what computer is going to hold them-- and there are so any places to look, it makes far more sense to split up.

Lisbeth he knows (and knows enough to keep a healthy distance between them); Stanley he doesn't, but it doesn't matter. Hopefully they won't run into much trouble.]

Here's hopin' we get it soon. We'll meet back here in an hour no matter what, yeah?

Wait, I have a question.

[Stanley always reports for the mission pings, because the first one he ever got sent him to the beach for a nice weekend. He's been hoping ever since that another one might do the same.So far he just ends up in shitty places with no idea what the fuck he's supposed to be doing there, though.]

Artie's used to leading teams and giving orders ... but he's also very used to knowing his team members like the back of his hand, their strengths and weaknesses. And a couple of the people with him look like they know what they're doing, too, so he looks determined but antsy as he reads over their assignment, a battered black leather doctor's bag on one arm.

"Looks like the best way to do this would be to split into two groups: one to do the overheating and one to alter the manifests. Who feels more comfortable doing what? I could go either way, so I'll help whoever needs it."

Elissa stands firm and tall, unassuming in the garb she's chosen. They're an odd crew, to be certain, with all of them wearing something that makes them stand out from one another. But at least they're all cohesive and on the same side. She keeps a hand on the dagger at her waist, armed to the teeth with two long blades strapped to her back, but she draws none of them. No workers should be harmed during this mission.

"I'll go after the manifests. I can sneak around here without being seen, I promise you." She offers a brief and reassuring smile but it's there and gone in the next instant. "I'll take whomever is willing to go with me. Worse comes to worse, I can go alone."

With no great love of the Initiative or their tactics Giovanni had signed up for the mission purely in order to free those transports who found themselves kidnapped once again, this time by United Earth's hand. The assignment he was given seemed a relative easy one when compared to some of the missions he had undertaken at home but... down load?

Even as he turned the device meant to hold the stolen information over in his hand he frowned and looked to his companions.

"Does anyone know what it means to down load?"

Night 1

[personal profile] devotedtothecore 2013-09-19 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
As with many others, Chrysos had reported to the Hold within the hour of the Initiative's call to arms (such as it was), and in the rush of briefings and assignments given and the hustling towards the transporters, there had been barely enough time to take note of objectives, let alone introductions. Names and faces, he had that much. It didn't help that his mind kept wandering to the night of the UE raid, and more than once, to his consternation, he snapped out of a reverie to find his fingers feeling at the still-dark bruises at his throat, where a black-suited hand had left its mark.

That close to death. It still hadn't quite sunk in. (He couldn't let in sink in; there was still work to do.)

With the efficiency of the Initiative, it wasn't long before he found himself in the silence of a deserted compound, surrounded by part-laid walls and groundwork and piles of building materials. Standing floodlights the only source of artificial light for miles around, it seemed, and the night sky dark overhead.

He turned to the others with him, took a moment to size them up properly. ...a second moment longer at Raiden, then away, trying not to stare.

"The area needs to be scouted." Speaking grated in his throat, still, sounded hoarse to his ears. "Where the workers reside, the material warehouses, the general layout of the facility... we have no blueprints, so we'll have to make out own, if we're to modify them usefully."

busywork - nights and days

[personal profile] devotedtothecore 2013-09-20 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
They've managed to divide the work, for the most part, in a way that puts everyone's talents to use, though not without a few hitches here and there. The days pass and settle into something of an established routine; the daylight is spent staying concealed further in the outlands, resting and recuperating. Two hours past sundown marks initial recon, making sure that the site's clear of all personnel before the rest of the team moves in; and the rest of the night is a muffled flurry of activity, planning and shaping and modifying and adding to the complex, with someone always on duty to keep an eye out over the area.

It's a lot of time to spend in the company of strangers without at least few conversations, here and there.

(( OOC: Feel free to start off your own independent threads from here! One-on-one time with other members of the team, etc. ))

Several days of the job passes surprisingly smoothly. Maybe, just maybe, they'll get it finished as planned, make the call to their operator, and head on home.

But it's late one night-- three in the morning, or so, to anyone with either a chronometer or an uncanny time sense-- that there's one body more than there should be, entering the grounds of the compound.
