Date & Time: Jan 12th to Jan 19th (real time), July 11th to July 18th (historical time), 1884
Location: Black Rock, New Mexico, USA
Characters: All transports
Summary: Fearing UE reprisal, the Initiative corrals all transports and shoos them onto a mission back to the Wild West, to vote Gerald "Moony" Jackson in as Mayor of Black Rock. Transports are encouraged to used all their wiles to encourage townsfolk to vote in favor of him, too. Other than that, they're free to roam as they will for 7 whole days! Good luck finding food and shelter, masses. (See the OOC post for more information.)

The Initiative had been terse and rushed as they gathered the transports into the Transporter room, and anyone unwilling to participate will have been forcibly hurried along. The Initiative employees had seemed distracted and worried, and unwilling to stand around and debate. It was time to move. The teleportation had gone off without a hitch, and a roomful of transports have been treated, quite suddenly, to a broad and sunny blue sky, and especially to the heat of mid July in the American West.

Enjoy your weeklong stay in Black Rock, New Mexico! The town is small and sleepy, with just 3 good saloons and one questionable (but considerably cheaper) one. There are a few inns, but these inns aren't quite prepared to room a sudden influx of over 300 travelers, and some people might have to bunk up or get creative with their sleeping arrangements. If you sleep in an inn at all, of course. There's plenty of unexplored wilderness out there to sleep in instead, isn't there? Just make sure to check your boots for scorpions in the morning.

The only instructions are "vote for Gerald "Moony" Jackson for Mayor, and try to convince others to do the same", and you've been given just enough money to cover a very sparse room and board for 7 days, if you don't spend it in anything else.

So, how do you spend your time?

Edit: Overflow log!

[A: Once the shock of arriving in the past has faded off, Shinji begins to make plans for staying here. Unfortunately, he seems to have bad luck in trying to rent a room--they're all full up and there's none left for him. He'll have to somehow make do in the wilderness.

The streets are scary and dangerous. No way is he staying there. But he doesn't want to wander too far out either--no telling what animal would eat him.

So with the money he's got, he buys a tent. Just outside of town, you might find Shinji struggling to put it up. He's not making very good progress.]

B: [Mission? What mission? Shinji's been hiding out in his tent instead of exploring. But hunger is a powerful motivator, so with a carefully rationed amount and an empty belly, he heads into town to see if he can buy some food.

Unfortunately, his search leads him to a saloon, the last place he wants to be at. He looks incredibly uncomfortable and out of place as he sits in the corner, nursing his meager meal.]

[Billy carries some tent supplies in a bag slung over his shoulder. He's planning to erect some kind of shelter eventually, but he wants to walk and enjoy the sunshine for a while. He pauses when he sees someone fiddling with a similar tent and waves.]

Hey. How's your tent coming along?

[He's not trying to be insulting, he's genuinely curious. People make progress in all kinds of ways.]

It's... um...

[It's halfway done and sloppy at that. Shinji's never gone camping before, and these tents didn't exactly come with instructions. He looks at his work and sheepishly rubs the back of his neck.]

It's coming...

I see.

[Billy squats to take a better look at it, spotting a few poles out of place and some trouble brewing. He points in a few spots as he talks.]

Hey, it might look a little sturdier if you slide the pole in here. That connects to the base, and the legs should stand strong easily if they're inserted this way. I don't know how strong the winds get, but it would be awful if this blew over on you.

[Shinji watches where Billy points attentively. If there's one thing you could say about Shinji, it's that he follows directions pretty well. He takes one and slides it over to its proper place. He glances back at him.]

Like this...?

Yeah, that's it.

[He leans in to check, but it's fine. The rest should follow logically.]

Just put the other one in the same way, just underneath. That should keep everything together for you.

Boy.

[Gilgamesh had been walking along the outskirts of the town, waiting for a majority of the towns' folk to go to sleep. It would provide more cover in the night for him to board his ship and leave if there were less eyes on him. Waiting for the night, the king stood in a plain black suit and tie, holding a brilliant golden bow.

He didn't want to stand out--but, anyone looking after him at that time would be forced to stare at the gaudy looking weapon.]

Why are you camping out in the dirt all alone?

[The heat is something that Shinji's used to, but he's weary of the oppressive, dry atmosphere and is about to head into his tent when Gilgamesh calls him. Surprised, he turns around, stops, and stares at the bow.]

Ah-- [His gaze flickers up to Gilgamesh's face. Memory tugs at the back of his mind. Oh. It's the cello-lender from a few days ago.]

The inns-- they were full.

[personal profile] gates_of_babylon 2013-01-14 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. It certainly makes sense. [With so many transports being dropped into town to do something as menial as adjusting the timeline to a preferable outcome, it was no wonder that the inns were packed to capacity. What a bore, he thought. Couldn't they have forged a bit of a better scenario for their supposed heroes? It was ten times more suspicious dropping in well over fifty people into a small town all at once.

Though, he wasn't in charge of it--not that he wanted to be. Gilgamesh found it all to be extremely dull stuff.]

You may wish to prepare your tent differently, however. If you're out far enough, the unbounded wind will remove it from you in the middle of the night.

[Shinji looks at his tent. It's not the best in the world, but at least it's standing. (For how long it'll stay standing, it's hard to tell.) He gives a short, nervous laugh.]

I should, shouldn't I? I'm not-- used to camping. Outdoor activities.

( it has been a tough day trying convincing people concerning the vote, but Madoka feels that there has been some progress compared to days prior. now with a little free time, she had taken to exploring before the growling of her stomach rightly informed her that skipping breakfast probably had not been the very best of ideas.

she wonders if she should find one of the others, but swallows it down and makes her way into the saloon. she isn't... terribly sure about this place, but it does not keep her from smiling.

of course, now with a meal-- she faces another problem. this place was packed. and so, with a quick glance around she spots Shinji and heads over, trying to nudge her somewhat-to-big hat up a bit.
)

Excuse me, do you might if I sit here too? ( she laughs, a bit weakly though. ) This place filled up pretty quickly...
