Date & Time: Jan 12th to Jan 19th (real time), July 11th to July 18th (historical time), 1884
Location: Black Rock, New Mexico, USA
Characters: All transports
Summary: Fearing UE reprisal, the Initiative corrals all transports and shoos them onto a mission back to the Wild West, to vote Gerald "Moony" Jackson in as Mayor of Black Rock. Transports are encouraged to used all their wiles to encourage townsfolk to vote in favor of him, too. Other than that, they're free to roam as they will for 7 whole days! Good luck finding food and shelter, masses. (See the OOC post for more information.)

The Initiative had been terse and rushed as they gathered the transports into the Transporter room, and anyone unwilling to participate will have been forcibly hurried along. The Initiative employees had seemed distracted and worried, and unwilling to stand around and debate. It was time to move. The teleportation had gone off without a hitch, and a roomful of transports have been treated, quite suddenly, to a broad and sunny blue sky, and especially to the heat of mid July in the American West.

Enjoy your weeklong stay in Black Rock, New Mexico! The town is small and sleepy, with just 3 good saloons and one questionable (but considerably cheaper) one. There are a few inns, but these inns aren't quite prepared to room a sudden influx of over 300 travelers, and some people might have to bunk up or get creative with their sleeping arrangements. If you sleep in an inn at all, of course. There's plenty of unexplored wilderness out there to sleep in instead, isn't there? Just make sure to check your boots for scorpions in the morning.

The only instructions are "vote for Gerald "Moony" Jackson for Mayor, and try to convince others to do the same", and you've been given just enough money to cover a very sparse room and board for 7 days, if you don't spend it in anything else.

OTA all week

[Spock is, for the most part, attempting to stay out of notice and out of trouble for his time here. He's read a decent amount about Earth history (and been to a simulated old West), so, with the aid of the technology provided by the Initative, he is able to blend in quite well.

He's also one of the few who seem unbothered by the heat; in fact, you can often find him explore the desert landscape. If one didn't know better, one might almost say he's...nostalgic.]

[The town doesn't exactly hold the delights of everyone. It may be small, but it's loud. Loud and claustrophobic, especially when you happened to wander into one of the wrong places.

The desert, as such, could actually be a source of solace.

For all intents and purposes, Katniss is confident that she's alone. Alone, and with her eye currently on a jackrabbit that had wandered into her vicinity and paused for just long enough. Her arrow is already notched on the string, and she's seconds away from following through with what is, quite honestly, a pretty good shot. --

Until, suddenly, it scampers away.

With a huff, she lowers her bow, and starts to look around for the source of what could have disturbed her target. It doesn't take her long to spot what had to have been the culprit: a man walking not too far away.

And she's sending him the dirtiest look possible.]

[And, of course, Spock raises an eyebrow in response to that dirty look. How was he supposed to know that she was hunting? Come on, kid.]

[ Finding the strange man in the desert it is! Since honestly it's a desert, who the heck wouldn't want to check out the desert at least once? It's got this big hype about it in so many movies that it'd be a damn shame not to wander into it at least once.

Of course midday probably isn't the bed time for it, and having forgotten to bring a canteen probably wasn't the best idea either. Boy it is hot out here, and what's worse is the fact that for all the fact that it's pretty... there sure isn't a lot to do in a desert at all! This is both a miserable and disappointing experience. He hasn't even seen one mirage yet and--

But wait, is that... could it be?! ...

No as Jake shields his eyes and squints at the approaching figure he is almost sure that's an actual man and not a delusion created by Jake's heat addled mind.

He lifts his hand to give the man a lackluster wave, not sure if he'll actually see or not. ]

[Definitely not a mirage. Spock raises his hand in greeting- if Jake's wave was lackluster, then this is decidedly unenthusiastic. But that's how vulcans roll, man.

Eventually, he gets within speaking distance and the wave is accompanied by a nod.]

[ Well at least the man seems to have some manners! It's probably more than one might expect from most people you'd meet out in the middle of the desert. Jake does his best to put on a friendly smile, but it's hard to appear friendly when you're sweating all the salt and water right out of your body. ]

[ One would imagine that would be the case! Or at least, it'd be very unfortunate if you came from a planet like that and worked up a sweat easy.

Ah, so this guy was at least the type not to mind chatting with a stranger. Always a plus in Jake's book. He turns to look in the direction of the town... at least he's pretty sure he's look in the right direction, before looking back at Spock. ]

You're telling me! I haven't seen a single person out here before you.

The heat is too much for most. [A raised eyebrow] Particularly those who neglect to bring the necessary water. [Never mind that he doesn't have a canteen either. That's different.]

Ah, yes that's certainly true.

[ Clearing his throat and adjusting his shirt a little hoping the man doesn't happen to recognize his complete lack of canteen or any other instrument for hauling around water. Not the first impression he wants to make here! ]

You seem to be handling it well enough in any case.

[Oh, he saw. That's why he said what he did.] Vulcan, my home planet, is a much harsher desert than this. I am evolved to "handle it."

[ Did he say Vulcan? Jake blinks a couple times as he tries to understand what he just heard. Maybe it's a coincidence? Either way he looks slightly baffled at the moment. ]

Vulcan, you say? Well that's... sure something! So are you saying from an Earthman's perspective you'd be an alien?

[No human could hear, but Spock isn't exactly human; the ears aren't just for decoration. He approaches, hands behind his back, and gives her a nod in greeting.]

May I ask what language you are speaking? I do not believe it is known to me.

Few, I think, would have heard that. Even fewer would have asked of it. It is Sindarin, an elvish language.

Fascinating. I had previously regarded "elves" as nothing more folklore.

[Sam for the most part is sticking around town, he does not fancy getting lost in the desert. He is speaking to some townspeople, getting to know them even if he hasn't been trying to convince anyone to vote yet.

He sees the elf, he thinks he is an elf anyways he looks a little different than the elves Sam has met thus far but still quite elf like as it were. He nods at him with a smile in greeting.]
