Date & Time: Jan 12th to Jan 19th (real time), July 11th to July 18th (historical time), 1884
Location: Black Rock, New Mexico, USA
Characters: All transports
Summary: Fearing UE reprisal, the Initiative corrals all transports and shoos them onto a mission back to the Wild West, to vote Gerald "Moony" Jackson in as Mayor of Black Rock. Transports are encouraged to used all their wiles to encourage townsfolk to vote in favor of him, too. Other than that, they're free to roam as they will for 7 whole days! Good luck finding food and shelter, masses. (See the OOC post for more information.)
The Initiative had been terse and rushed as they gathered the transports into the Transporter room, and anyone unwilling to participate will have been forcibly hurried along. The Initiative employees had seemed distracted and worried, and unwilling to stand around and debate. It was time to move. The teleportation had gone off without a hitch, and a roomful of transports have been treated, quite suddenly, to a broad and sunny blue sky, and especially to the heat of mid July in the American West.
Enjoy your weeklong stay in Black Rock, New Mexico! The town is small and sleepy, with just 3 good saloons and one questionable (but considerably cheaper) one. There are a few inns, but these inns aren't quite prepared to room a sudden influx of over 300 travelers, and some people might have to bunk up or get creative with their sleeping arrangements. If you sleep in an inn at all, of course. There's plenty of unexplored wilderness out there to sleep in instead, isn't there? Just make sure to check your boots for scorpions in the morning.
The only instructions are "vote for Gerald "Moony" Jackson for Mayor, and try to convince others to do the same", and you've been given just enough money to cover a very sparse room and board for 7 days, if you don't spend it in anything else.
So, how do you spend your time?
Edit: Overflow log!

She tries, she honestly tries. After a few hours, she looks rather tired herself. Like a woman who might need some water and a moist towel herself. ]
( b ) [ come evening, you might spot her standing in front of one of the inn, biting her lip. With so few places available, she is beginning to humor the idea of sleeping outside. She takes off her cape and inspects it, wondering if it could pass for a blanket for one week. ]
b
Checkin' for something?
no subject
[ she hurries to tie the cape around her shoulder, to offer him a smile as she meets him halfway. ]
No, I'm fine, really. How are you?
[ spoken kindly but perhaps too quickly. ]
no subject
Know where you're stayin' yet, chère?
no subject
[ it's better than being outside after all. ]
I could stay outside too, I really don't mind.

Closer up, however, at least one thing becomes clear: this woman isn't taking the heat much better than he is. He slows down as he approaches.] Hey, you okay?
no subject
I'm fine, just tired. This heat is simply -
[ it is then when she seems to notice his coat. ]
Oh! Here - would you like water?
no subject
no subject
[ she'll give him one and take one for herself. ]
I'm not really good at this, convincing people. I just help however I can.

Why would she do that? What was the point of it? She seems rather good at it, but did that make her one of those strange goodie-goodie people he has heard about?
When she looks fatigued, he carelessly offers up a canteen of water for her as she passes.] Why are you doing this?
no subject
Thank you.
[ she'll take a few gulps before smiling. ]
Everyone seem tired and the heat is rather terrible. I thought it might help. I don't know what else to do.
no subject
I suppose so... [He looks around, though not interested in the people much. He does know of maids, but he's never had one.] That seems like a rather strange thing to do for a pretty woman. Shouldn't someone be serving you water?
no subject
I'm just a maidservant, I don't need serving, really.

[ the voice comes from a boy behind her; he looks more like a stable hand, but he speaks too eloquently for one and carries himself more like one of noble blood. his brows are lightly drawn up in concern, and he steps forwards like a curious little bird, points of his feet first. he's too accustomed to raised boots and heels. ]
no subject
[ She watches him, his posture and the way she speaks before offering a smile, a curtsy. ]
I'm Guinevere. Gwen, if you'd like. Most people call me that. You don't have to, of course, Guinevere is fine too -
[ erm. she forces herself to stop rambling after that. ]
no subject
Miss Gwen, perhaps?
It is a pleasure. I am Larsa Solidor.
[ he bows respectfully. ]
no subject
[ but she allowed Pippin to call her that and so, despite being a maidservant she accepts .]
Do you want some water, Larsa?

as evening comes on, it's clear they're not going to return back to their usual quarters. (back to the other time? the other world? what would be the best thing to call it--and he hates that he has to have that thought at all; would that things were simple and they didn't have to deal with the complexities and confusion that magic forces them into.) so he seeks out Guinevere more directly, out of a sense of duty and a will to see her safely quartered, as any good prince would do for a subject forced into these circumstances.
of course, when he finally finds her, by the inn, his smile is more fond than it is princely.]
It's a well-made cloak, but I don't know that they would accept it as payment for a room.
no subject
[ she hurries to fold the cape away, doesn't mention that she made it herself. It's a simple thing, dark blue of rough cotton but it served her well. She eyes the inn and then eyes him too. She cannot have him find out she's considering sleeping outside, she knows he won't have it. ]
They're full, actually. There are rooms in the other one, it's over there by that road, if you'd like to try.
[ the more expensive one, rumor has it, and Gwen counts all her blessings but also all her coins. She's saving them and unless it's mandatory, she tries not to use them.
A room for a night isn't mandatory, she can make do outside, which is why she pulls the cape back over her shoulders. ]
no subject
[he turns a vague glare on the inn in question. no inn has ever been too full to receive him, or anyone else he demanded quarters for. it's a strange feeling, to realize that if he were to go in there and demand a room for her, he would likely not get it. perhaps the likely should be struck from that sentence, too; the people here are even more belligerent than those kidnapped by the Initiative.
his mouth twists a bit, unimpressed, and he looks back to Guinevere.]
I'll see you safely to the other inn. This one hardly looks suitable--bedbugs and rats--
[unconsciously, he starts to offer his arm to her. but. right. status. prince and servant. awkwardly, he drops his arm to his side, shaking it out, as if that's what he'd meant to do all along, and nods to her. right.]
no subject
[ she won't say expensive, for then he will pay for her and she can't have that. So she simply eyes him and his arm for a moment, shifting her weight from one foot to another in a display of nervousness. ]
This one is fine, i'm certain I could manage, really, Arthur, it's fine, you should not trouble yourself over this.
[ all that is said very quickly as she nods her head firmly.

He had some water which he took over to the woman he had watched looking after others and offered it to her with a smile.] It's important to drink when it is this hot, miss.
no subject
Thank you - are you sure you have no need of it?

[He's used to it, the first question out of many peoples mouths is whether he is an acquaintance of Frodo.]
no subject
[ she curtsies, half in thanks and half out of duty. One can never know who is nobility and who isn't in this realm. ]
Guinevere, but everyone calls me Gwen.
[ and then she sips the water until she feels like she can breathe again. ]
Thank you. It is kind of you to think of me.
