Date & Time: Jan 12th to Jan 19th (real time), July 11th to July 18th (historical time), 1884
Location: Black Rock, New Mexico, USA
Characters: All transports
Summary: Fearing UE reprisal, the Initiative corrals all transports and shoos them onto a mission back to the Wild West, to vote Gerald "Moony" Jackson in as Mayor of Black Rock. Transports are encouraged to used all their wiles to encourage townsfolk to vote in favor of him, too. Other than that, they're free to roam as they will for 7 whole days! Good luck finding food and shelter, masses. (See the OOC post for more information.)

The Initiative had been terse and rushed as they gathered the transports into the Transporter room, and anyone unwilling to participate will have been forcibly hurried along. The Initiative employees had seemed distracted and worried, and unwilling to stand around and debate. It was time to move. The teleportation had gone off without a hitch, and a roomful of transports have been treated, quite suddenly, to a broad and sunny blue sky, and especially to the heat of mid July in the American West.

Enjoy your weeklong stay in Black Rock, New Mexico! The town is small and sleepy, with just 3 good saloons and one questionable (but considerably cheaper) one. There are a few inns, but these inns aren't quite prepared to room a sudden influx of over 300 travelers, and some people might have to bunk up or get creative with their sleeping arrangements. If you sleep in an inn at all, of course. There's plenty of unexplored wilderness out there to sleep in instead, isn't there? Just make sure to check your boots for scorpions in the morning.

The only instructions are "vote for Gerald "Moony" Jackson for Mayor, and try to convince others to do the same", and you've been given just enough money to cover a very sparse room and board for 7 days, if you don't spend it in anything else.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on how convincing the hypothetical argument might be.

I can be persuasive, m'self. _{( But it's a weak and iffy science, circumstantial at best and helped along by charisma. It's charm, not control. )}

But, hey--I say we do what we want with what we're given. Only way ta enjoy things.

I'm all about enjoying myself now. This past year's been rough.

[Of course, she would enjoy the place more if the people she loved were there, but it was like he said: "with what they're given."]

I wonder what he'll go on to do, or change, this Jackson guy.

Then don't dwell on it. _{( Breeze right past hard times: that's always been the Lebeau patented method of getting by.

Now he tilts his head to one-side and looks up at the sun. His eyes don't take that very well, and so his gaze ends up at his feet. )}

Prob'ly something real important that'll help the Initiative save the day. Or isn't that what it should be?

All this back an' forth stuff never seemed much good ta me, though.

I can't imagine they know exactly what will change for the better. It's probably more like "well let's throw them at this and if they change it, hopefully things will end up better and not worse."

But it's better than sitting around, I guess.

That's 'bout the worst strategy I've ever heard of. _{( Including all of his own half-baked schemes, and the ones involving time travel. )}

Still... change a pace, and not bein' in the actual war. Looks like we lucked out.

I can't say it's bad to time travel, though. Seeing history as it's happening is pretty cool.

Not this time. But on another mission? It depends on what they ask us to do. This sort of thing is easy.

I know a few who'd disagree, with that. We got plenty a soldiers about--maybe they think this bit's the difficult part.

Oh, well I guess in that case, I should have said "easy for me."

Still, seems like a lot of effort to stuff a ballot box. People have been doin' the same with less for a long time.

Yeah, it makes me wonder what makes this guy so important. Maybe his influence does something, or his descendants?

Or maybe if he gets ta be mayor, he won't have a kid who grows up ta found the United what's-their-names, or somethin'. _{( Because time shenanigans cannot and will not be simple, ever. )}

Or that. Who knows? I still think it's a long shot the Initiative's taking. Say this works. Then what else in history needs to line up to change things for the better?

Now, there's a question with no answer. Every time y'change one thing, another's gonna need shiftin'. At least, that's how it's s'pposed ta work.

Yeah. And yet, if this works and we do what we're meant to and sent back to our homes, we wouldn't even see a difference, would we? We're helping to save our worlds too, right? It's so the United Earth doesn't go resource hunting there. If we succeed and go back, everything should look normal. But if this is all a lie, then we get home and everything is still normal anymore. We really don't see the payoff at home. Only here.

Which begs the question--why're we stickin' around? Or even tryin' ta help?

Because it gives us something to do? Besides, they were pretty anxious to get us on this mission. I think they would have dragged some people out of their apartments if they hadn't come willingly.

And that, more than anythin', makes me wish I'd stayed. _{( Because he has been dying to explore the places the Initiative doesn't want them to see. )}

I can understand that. Do you think there'll be future opportunities to stay behind when they all want us to hurry up and get out?

I think they can't control us all, all the way, all the time. Someone's gonna slip.

And when they do... well, I'm guessing it won't be pretty.
