Date & Time: Jan 12th to Jan 19th (real time), July 11th to July 18th (historical time), 1884
Location: Black Rock, New Mexico, USA
Characters: All transports
Summary: Fearing UE reprisal, the Initiative corrals all transports and shoos them onto a mission back to the Wild West, to vote Gerald "Moony" Jackson in as Mayor of Black Rock. Transports are encouraged to used all their wiles to encourage townsfolk to vote in favor of him, too. Other than that, they're free to roam as they will for 7 whole days! Good luck finding food and shelter, masses. (See the OOC post for more information.)

The Initiative had been terse and rushed as they gathered the transports into the Transporter room, and anyone unwilling to participate will have been forcibly hurried along. The Initiative employees had seemed distracted and worried, and unwilling to stand around and debate. It was time to move. The teleportation had gone off without a hitch, and a roomful of transports have been treated, quite suddenly, to a broad and sunny blue sky, and especially to the heat of mid July in the American West.

Enjoy your weeklong stay in Black Rock, New Mexico! The town is small and sleepy, with just 3 good saloons and one questionable (but considerably cheaper) one. There are a few inns, but these inns aren't quite prepared to room a sudden influx of over 300 travelers, and some people might have to bunk up or get creative with their sleeping arrangements. If you sleep in an inn at all, of course. There's plenty of unexplored wilderness out there to sleep in instead, isn't there? Just make sure to check your boots for scorpions in the morning.

The only instructions are "vote for Gerald "Moony" Jackson for Mayor, and try to convince others to do the same", and you've been given just enough money to cover a very sparse room and board for 7 days, if you don't spend it in anything else.

So, how do you spend your time?

Edit: Overflow log!

[There's many wondrous creatures Aragorn has seen in his long life. Some more terrifying than wondrous, but Kang was definitely in a league of his own. Never had Aragorn seen a dragon or anything even remotely resembling a dragon. The creature looked to be a drake of some kind, a smaller beast similar to the great dragons of old. While the creature certainly doesn't seem as fearsome and malevolent as the legendary Smaug; Aragorn couldn't help but stare at him in awe.

A brief moment passes before the ranger acknowledged him with both a nod and a greeting.]

It would seem so.

[That is a look that Kang is slowly getting used to from others. He's more accustomed to fear, and outright disgust or anger, from humans. Or worse, patronization.]

They shoved us away pretty quickly, didn't they? All of us. Why all of us are necessary for a mission like this, I haven't be able to figure out yet.

[He keeps his voice low, so that passing locals can't hear.]

[Aragorn soon realizes he's staring and stops himself immediately. Despite how peculiar the creature might be, that doesn't give Aragorn the right to gawk at him. Although he's very surprised how this beast managed to keep his presence relevantly unknown here.

Surely one of the locals would soon spot him, and if so--that could have disastrous effects on their alleged mission.]

That they did. [He answers honestly.] Though I believe there's more at work here.

[The Initiative gave non-humans handy little devices to hide their appearance. His is on, but it doesn't work on Transports.]

I haven't been in Exsilium long enough to have an idea of what, though.

[That certainly would explain why no one shrieked at the sight of a giant lizard. It would seem that the Initiative are at least good for something.]

This a "war". [He whispers quietly.] It would surprise me not if they've gotten word of a preemptive strike from the United Earth. How else would anyone explain their need to hide us?

Many would be lost otherwise.

That would make sense.

[They had seemed very worried about something.]

Forgive me, I've been rude. I am Kang.

A thought an acquaintance of mine.

[While there's no way for them to tell whether or not the Hold was under attack, Aragorn wouldn't be surprised if it is. Another transport told him that months ago the Initiative bombed the city with explosives. Supposedly many perished during the onslaught, but Aragorn never once confirmed if that was true.]

There's nothing to forgive. [He quickly states with a wan smile.] Etiquette is often forgotten in times of stress.

I am Aragorn son of Arathorn, and am called Elessar, the Elfstone.

[This would mark one of the rare times he uses the name "Elessar" here. Aragorn has been rather tight-lipped about it. However, he's beginning to grow into. He much rather be known as "Elessar" than "Estel".]

I greet you, Kang.

[That's an unusual way for the human to introduce himself. Maybe it's standard on his world.]

Well met. Do you prefer Aragorn or Elessar?

[personal profile] thelastking 2013-01-18 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Quite standard for nobility, but only recently has Aragorn adopted this way of introducing himself. In days before, he was more likely to simply refer to himself as "Strider".]

Aragorn was the name given to me by my father, and the name I still wear.

[He smiles somewhat.]

It shall take time until I grow used to being called by any other

[He's no king yet, so he has no use for that name. Yet there's one in Exsilium who does call him by his kingly title, and she was the one who given it to him.]
