I ain't the type for this sorta diplomatic bullshit, so I ain't gonna waste my time tryin' to conwince anyone anythin'.

[ok so he did try and noone takes him seriously so this is his excuse, ww/e]

You? Not the diplomatic type? That's kind of surprising.

[ She's joking! It's a joke! That's an improvement, isn't it? ]

Maybe we could go do something else instead!

An' do what? There's nothin' out here but dirt an' it's really, really hot. Like, too hot.

[fintastic]

We could go find some caves! Where it's nice and cool.

[..actually, that sounds pretty good.]

Yeah, alright.

[Standing up.]

New Mexico's the place you said you were before, right.

[fintastic]

Yes!

[ Feferi stands up with him, dusting herself off and looking around. She actually doesn't know where to find a cave, but she's willing to take a guess. ]

That's why when they said we were coming here, I went and got plenty of water! I knew we'd need it.

[Just kinda slumps.]

This is the second time we been sent to some lousy dirthole for a mission. I mean remember last time it was this bad, that fuckin' desert, god.

Is somewhere cold too much to ask for.

Oh!

[ Well that was unexpected. ]

That's a pretty neat trick! How did you do that?

[frorn]

It's not really a trick.

[ His grins grows more confident as he holds up his hand, making a big snowflake appear and hover just inches above it. He moves his hand then, the snowflake starting to dance around it. ]

I just can.

[fintastic]

It's like magic!

[ She reaches out like she wants to touch it, but then pauses, not sure if she should. ]

[frorn]

You could call it that.

[ He stills his hand, the snowflake coming to float in place again as he nods encouragingly to show she's welcome to touch it. if she does, it will explode in a burst of smaller snowflakes. ]

[fintastic]

[ Feferi laughs shrilly, delighted at all the little snowflakes. ]

That's a pretty handy trick to have out here, anyway! What's your name?

[frorn]

[ Well, right now in the heat he was mostly useless, but he grins at that nonetheless. ]

I'm Jack Frost.

[fintastic]

I'm Feferi! It's nice to meet you! You don't like the heat much either, do you?

[frorn]

Nice to meet you too, Feferi. [ He shakes his head, causing some of the slowly melting icicles to fall from his hair. ]

You could say it's not really my element.

for Sollux

[fintastic]

[ This isn't her first time seeing Sollux since the start of the mission, plying him with the supply of water she packed when she heard they were going to New Mexico. Towards the end of the week, once the sun's gone down and the heat of the day is dissipating, she hunts him down again, this time for another reason.

She's spent the rest of the week when she wasn't participating in the mission poring over maps-- not exactly her specialty, but she put a lot of effort into it, as well as finding a compass. There are no highways for her to reference, and no reservoir listed, but the river is what she remembers best, and she's certain she'll be able to place the natural landmarks.

About a hundred and fifty miles south-east of their location is the site of what may or may not be a budding town. She actually has no idea what she'll really find there, but she wants to see. She has to, and Sollux is the only person she's close enough to ask to take her. ]

[Sollux enjoys few things during his time in New Mexico. Among those few things are sitting and/or sleeping in the darkness until the sun sets, becoming even more of a recluse and nocturnal than he already was before, despite his now human appearance. And two, whining. Not that he didn't always whine a lot, he's especially miserable now with this heat and the sun and the little food and the all too blatant racism surrounding him right now in this human flesh than he had before as an alien.

Visits from Feferi were a reprieve, and while most of the time she spent fetching things for him or food or other things, he still was glad to see her. ]

Hey, FF.

[fintastic]

Hey.

[ She pulls him into a loose hug and gives him a little peck, just in greeting. ]

How are you holding up?

[biwinning]

Okay, I gueth. I wish I could do better.

[fintastic]

It'll be over soon, I promise. We'll go back and you don't ever have to care about any of these humans ever again because they are so not worth it!

[ He'd had a bad week, so she hesitates before she actually asks him, but she has to! She can't not. ]

Actually, though, I came here to ask you something.

[biwinning]

Yeah?

[He doesn't really look up, still staring at the floor. His depression isn't helping the situation much.]

[fintastic]

Well... it took a while to get it all figured out but, this place is really close to where I used to be. And I kind of wanted to go visit it, but I can't get there on foot, and...

[ She heaves a sigh and opts to stop pussyfooting around it. ]

Could you take me there? You could fly us faster than I could walk. I don't know what will be there, but I want to know.
