Date & Time: Jan 12th to Jan 19th (real time), July 11th to July 18th (historical time), 1884
Location: Black Rock, New Mexico, USA
Characters: All transports
Summary: Fearing UE reprisal, the Initiative corrals all transports and shoos them onto a mission back to the Wild West, to vote Gerald "Moony" Jackson in as Mayor of Black Rock. Transports are encouraged to used all their wiles to encourage townsfolk to vote in favor of him, too. Other than that, they're free to roam as they will for 7 whole days! Good luck finding food and shelter, masses. (See the OOC post for more information.)

The Initiative had been terse and rushed as they gathered the transports into the Transporter room, and anyone unwilling to participate will have been forcibly hurried along. The Initiative employees had seemed distracted and worried, and unwilling to stand around and debate. It was time to move. The teleportation had gone off without a hitch, and a roomful of transports have been treated, quite suddenly, to a broad and sunny blue sky, and especially to the heat of mid July in the American West.

Enjoy your weeklong stay in Black Rock, New Mexico! The town is small and sleepy, with just 3 good saloons and one questionable (but considerably cheaper) one. There are a few inns, but these inns aren't quite prepared to room a sudden influx of over 300 travelers, and some people might have to bunk up or get creative with their sleeping arrangements. If you sleep in an inn at all, of course. There's plenty of unexplored wilderness out there to sleep in instead, isn't there? Just make sure to check your boots for scorpions in the morning.

The only instructions are "vote for Gerald "Moony" Jackson for Mayor, and try to convince others to do the same", and you've been given just enough money to cover a very sparse room and board for 7 days, if you don't spend it in anything else.

You'd be like a bouncer in a nightclub, telling voters to "break it up" and "cool off."

[She smiles, looking at the fire he's made. Briefly, the flames turn green, then go back to normal.]

Oops. Sorry.

[She looks sheepish. She'd just been thinking of the flames changing color; she didn't actually mean to do it.]

Sounds like a good job for me. And with my training as a nurse, I can tend to them after their drunken brawls.

[the color change is surprising, but he just smiles at her and holds out his palm so a tiny ball of blue fire can ignite]

Can you do that again?

Um, I think so.

[She focuses on his hand, breathing in slowly and concentrating. She doesn't like to get too comfortable with fire, after what she's done with it, but a little color changing is fine, right?

She shifts the fire to green, then yellow, then red.]

I don't practice much with fire. Is that your specialty, or can you do other things?

[to answer her question, his ball of fire changes into a ball of lightning. Peter doesn't usually show off his powers like this but it feels safe to do it around this girl. After all, she's pretty powerful on her own]

The word they use for me back home is "empath".

[Ah, lightning. She knows it all too well. But she'll refrain from showing it off.]

Seriously? My gramma's an Empath too! I mean, I don't think you're like us.

[She peers at his eyes.]

You're not a Caster, are you?

[sorry, Lena, but his eyes are a normal hazel. Not Caster green or gold like a Dark. He lets the electricity ball die out]

You mean like magic? I'm afraid not. It's all genetics, like the next step in evolution.

[She lifts her brows, not sure what to think about that. In a way, being a Caster is genetics too.]

A Caster is a different race, actually, but we have magic.

I have to ask: this Empath you mentioned? Can she mimic the abilities of other people?

Yeah, she can. Not permanently, though. How about you?

That's exactly what I can do, except mine stay with me permanently. So I guess if I were from your world, I would be a Caster.

Really? Huh.

[So he's kind of like John Breed in that way.]

I guess so. How do you do it? Do you need to touch the person?

[that's probably the closest similarity. Maximum potential and all that]

No. I just have to be around them. It got to be a problem back home, but I've been handling it a lot better here.

A problem? Was it because you didn't know how to control your powers?

[And of course, she's asking since she has problems herself sometimes.]

Sorry. I don't mean to pry.

Exactly. Someone had to throw me off a building before I figured it out. [sadly he's not even joking about that]

Oh. [Her eyebrows lift in surprise.] That's an extreme way to make a person aware of how to use their powers. I take it you were okay?

I'm here and I'm in control of my powers, so it worked. Even if it was extreme.

So would you call it a happy ending, even stuck away from home and recruited for a war?

I couldn't say. There was a lot going on back home when I was brought here... I hope it's a happy ending, but I won't know for sure until I get back.

Makes sense. I do hope we're doing some good though, if our worlds really are in danger.

[Hey, her boyfriend saved the world. This is the least she can do after everything he did.]

Of course, if we go back we'll probably never know one way or the other.

[oh Peter already knows his in danger; that's why he's so anxious to get back]

I hope we're doing good here, too.

[She smiles.]

You're less cynical than others here I've talked to. It reminds me of someone back home. He always looks for the silver lining.

[he has to smile at that. His older self called it being naive, but Peter likes to think of it as retaining hope. Even now he wants to believe there's some greater purpose behind all this]

It's not always easy to find, but I believe it's there.

So does he. He's always saying, "we'll figure something out." You would think it'd get annoying after awhile, but coming from him, it never does.

[She gazes into the fire, smiling to herself for a moment, then shrugs.]

If he were here, he'd be doing all he could to help, I think. As long as there was a chance it'd help our world, he'd do it. So that's what I'm going to do too.

Maybe you can introduce us, if he ever comes here. It sounds like he and I would get along.

[She bobs her head in agreement. Ethan doesn't have as many friends as he used to, but at least the ones he does have are true and willing to help him no matter what.]

I think you would too. And I really wish he would. We were separated for awhile and I just got him back, so being here without him has been terrible.
